Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

They could also look to a couple of the YouTube links posted here. They are doing a very good job of reporting using a bunch of cameras they have placed around the area to show real time conditions and combine that with a radar, etc. To give you a good idea of what is happening and where and where the next area let me see bad weather, clear up, etc.

A relative has a place in Naples. I looked at Google Earth and his condo building is at elevation 14 feet on the coast. He heard they had 5 feet of water in the lobby and all of the cars floated away. Including his that he keeps down there.

Hurricane Hunter Nick Underwood flew into the storm Wednesday and said it was the “worst” flight he’d ever had. “I have flown storms for the last six years,” Underwood tweeted. This flight to Hurricane #Ian on Kermit (#NOAA42) was the worst I’ve ever been on. I’ve never seen so much lightning in an eye.”

Day late, dollar short, reasonably sure you already know, but SE Mom or others might not... a three phone charge or one tablet charge battery costs $10 to $15 at the Walmart Checkout counter. Get two minimum. Figure in a 12 volt cig lighter plug for the most convenience. Charge the batts in the car, outside, charge the phone inside, where the chocolate and tequila are. While you’re picking up the 12 volt plug and cable to match the batts, get a 120 volt inverter too. $15, $20... you won’t power your AC or dryer, but you can probably run a blender off it. Frozen Margies, in the midst of chaos....mmm.

There was pride and willful ignorance in play in Galveston too. Spanish American war convinced us Cuban monks knew squat bout canes, when they called it right every step thru landfall.

Big picture point. There will be a Galveston style wall of debris around Charlotte Bay. Another, smaller, round Tampa Bay. All along in between. Not near as tall as Galveston, not as far inland. Won’t have as many relatives washing (back) up, wanting burned, either.

I have an Ego battery inverter setup. Tonight it powered the microwave, heated up dinner and hot water for coffee. It was worth the hassle to haul it to evacuation location. Highly recommend for the serious power outage aficianado.

The emergency lighting in the hotel hallways failed several hours ago. Roof is leaking. No problem.

A bit late for the folks in Florida perhaps, but not for others who may still be impacted later on in this hurricane. I just ordered 2 external batteries for my MIL who is by herself, and she may get a power outage Friday or Saturday. Now she can power up her cell phone and iPad.

Yes. The blocks inside “the wall of debris” survived...largely. The ones “outside”...became the wall.

Haven’t been following Ian a lot.

I wonder if Gov. Newsom is sending aid to Florida. Probably not.

Hope everyone is safe in Florida. Prayers go out.

Just turned on Fox Weather channel.

I wonder if Gov. Newsom is sending aid to Florida.

Last I heard, Brandon appointed him Hurricane Czar / Military Governor of FL.

I wouldn’t be surprised.

If there was an big earthquake happened here Gov. Desantis would offer assistance.

Before you buy solar lights, pop the cap. Don’t buy unless you can remove the battery AND it is a normal battery. Replace the cheap factory battery with a ordinary AA or AAA NiMH rechargeable, for twice the storage and output. Charge em, pull the batts, keep em all together till you need em. ! to 2 lumens ain’t much light. 5 to 10... is.

115, with all the feeder bands inland. 960...yeah, she’s coming down, but not fast enough. The interior is getting a wake up call that won’t end for a good while.
