The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

Latest advisory. Cat 4, 155mph, pressure still dropping, 936mb, NNE, a wobble to the west again!
Ian gonna go where he wants to, Cat 5 most likely.
Next NHC update in 2 hrs.
Lord, have mercy on us. Local weatherman is gobsmacked too.
Thank you for this thread. Glad you are in a safe place.
That's good news.
We've had reports this year of the possibility of transformer shortages that could delay restoring electricity if a major hurricane hit. I wonder how that is faring?
That annoying feature reporter on Fox 13 gave voice to what I’m thinking. I’m glad it is missing Tampa but dear Lord I feel for the people in the Ft. Meyers area facing this monster.
The models indicated that this may weaken and stall, instead it looks like that it’s going to make Category 5. God help all in its path.
155 MPH?
Boy O Boy.
There will be nothing left.
Wanted to add my gratitude for your dedication to this thread. I have dear friends near Clearwater and Tampa as well as family near Melbourne. It helps so much to read comments from these areas. Prayers for your safety. I hope the tequila party at the hotel helped people relax for at least a bit before the hard part comes. Godspeed.
All of the models go right over me. Luckily Winter Haven is away from the coast. It is really raining hard right now.
I don’t know, blam. Unlike the Redneck Riviera beaches we all are used to with dunes and sea oats, that part of Florida is thick with Red Mangrove. Root system you wouldn’t believe. We were down there last year, and that was fascinating to me. For sure some of the man-made structures will suffer, but that part of the world would’ve washed away centuries ago but for those mangroves.
That was Charley Belcher, he summed it up well. Called it ‘Survivor’s Guilt’.
I’m also in Winter Haven. Thought we might not have to board up, but digging out my rain jacket as soon as the sun come up.
Yikes

...RAPIDLY INTENSIFYING IAN FORECAST TO CAUSE CATASTROPHIC
STORM SURGE, WINDS, AND FLOODING IN THE FLORIDA PENINSULA...
SUMMARY OF 700 AM EDT...1100 UTC...INFORMATION
"Womangroves". Also "theygroves" and "xgroves" is acceptable.
Cat 4 @ 155mph, 157 is Cat 5, no difference really, now slowing, NNE 9mph.
It’s a monster, not a little fast moving compact storm like Charley, anything in it’s path gonna get pounded, for many hours, days.
Yikes is right
I was having 'Gratitude Guilt' yesterday. So grateful that it's not coming here.
I recall hearing same. No news since.
Thankfully my family in Hernando seems to have been spared the worst. But incessant prayers continue for our neighbors down range.
+ ‘Jesus Christ, King of Glory, came in Peace. Christ suffered. Christ was crucified. Christ died. Christ rose from the dead. Christ ascended into Heaven. Christ triumphed. Christ reigns. Christ rules. Christ, protect our Countrymen in Florida and beyond from this terrible tempest and lightning! Christ has weathered these storms in Peace. And the Word became flesh. With Holy Mary, Christ lives in us. Begone evil spirits, because the Lion of the Generation of Judea, the root of David, has triumphed! Holiest God! Holy God Almighty! Holy God Immortal! Have mercy on on our brothers and sisters in Florida!’ + Amén +
