AR-15 style guns sold as a sign of manhood as shootings rise

WASHINGTON (AP) — Gun makers have taken in more than $1 billion from selling AR-15-style guns over the past decade, at times marketing them as a way for young men to prove their masculinity, even as the number of mass shootings increases, according to a House investigation unveiled Wednesday.

The weapons have been used in massacres that have horrified the nation, including one that left 10 people dead at a grocery store in Buffalo and another where 19 children and two teachers were shot to death in Uvalde, Texas.

The Committee on Oversight and Reform said some ads mimic popular first-person shooter video games or tout the weapons’ military pedigree while others claim the guns will put buyers “at the top of the testosterone food chain.”

Those sales tactics are “deeply disturbing, exploitative and reckless,” said Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York. “In short, the gun industry is profiting off the blood of innocent Americans.”

The one I used to have, before the boating mishap, translated into toxic dead coyotes, nothing more.

Just quote the Gov. Orgs. own statistics regards firearm related deaths vs defensive use.
Then walk out.

Really wishing I could locate that account from a few years ago of the Senators wife using an AR to defend herself against a cartel hit squad.

I call it the Everyman’s (and woman’s) rifle. It’s modular design, light weight, low recoil, and multitude of calibers make it the ideal gun. It can shoot everything from .22 LR to .50 Beowulf to .410 shotgun with simply an upper change.

Not really into long guns myself, tactical defense means a distance of maybe across the room, my Sig will do fine. But I get a kick out of the feeble attempt at Freudian analysis of AR owners. All you riflemen out there must have masculinity issues!

AR15’s as a sign of manhood? Um no. Manhood begins with a 275 H&H and goes up to .460 Weatherby level, or .600 Nitro. Soft recoiling .223 is not a sign of manhood.

Disclaimer: I am not counting .50 BMG for the purpose of normal rifle rounds, but if we are splitting hairs...

Actually, the author is incorrect.

The 50 BMG is a sign of manhood.

Aspiring mass murderers don't buy ARs because they're savvy gun-owners. Most of them couldn't field strip their AR if their life depended on it.

The reason the homicidal wackadoodles keep buying ARs to commit mass murder with is because THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA WON'T STOP TELLING THEM IT'S THE BEST TOOL FOR THE JOB!!!!!!
