Gas, Up and Away: Average Gallon Costs $4.87, an All-Time US Record

The pain at the pump continues for the vast majority of American drivers.

According to AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gas surged 59 cents over the last month, and Monday's average of $4.87 per gallon represents the most expensive average rate in United States history.

The one-week pricing spikes in Michigan (45 cents per gallon), Indiana (41 cents), and Wisconsin (39 cents) have been staggering.

The price hikes in Colorado, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas have also been steep, with each of the six states incurring a minimum increase of 30 cents per gallon over the last week.

Amid this unprecedented surge, all 50 states are now reporting average fuel prices exceeding $4 per gallon, with Oklahoma being the last state to eclipse the $4 mark, on average (end of May).

The state posting the lowest unleaded gas right now? According to GasBuddy.com ... it's Georgia at $4.28 per gallon.

According to Gas Buddy, which monitors fuel trends in various markets and countries, 10 different states — Indiana ($5.12 per gallon), Arizona ($5.14), Michigan ($5.15), Washington ($5.39), Oregon ($5.40), Hawaii ($5.42), Illinois ($5.43), Alaska ($5.44), Nevada ($5.48), and California ($6.33) — are currently reporting gas averages at $5 or higher.

In fact, a Chevron gas station in Los Angeles reportedly has unleaded fuel at $8.05 per gallon.

For that particular situation, however, corporate Chevron said: "This station, along with the majority of our branded stations in California, are owned by independent businesspeople who make their own decisions about the price to charge at their stations."

In a Monday blog post, AAA attributed the record-high fuel costs to a volatile market and high demand.

According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, AAA revealed that gasoline stocks decreased 5.1 million barrels to 414.7 million barrels...

It’s $5.42 and up in Northwest Indiana. The first place I stopped was out of fuel. A Citgo down the street had fuel and was a few cents less expensive. My bill for the fill-up was $66.66.

Democrats have been saying for decades that US gas prices are too low and we should match Europe.

Does anyone who votes actually remember that?

There is nothing we can do.

Joe is a record setter. Gas and food prices are at all time highs. Demented Joe thinks he’s doing a great job and Americans just don’t understand how great he is. My question is, what will Joe screw up next? I feel something coming soon.

And Chomo Joe isn’t even half way through his first term. And if he remains animated, he WILL “win” a second term.

Trump would not be playing games with leasing, and permitting drilling and pipelines.

On 4th? We just moved from there back to MI, just couldn’t take the homeless invasion/urban life anymore. Our caregiving ended too and there was no reason to live there anymore.

Among other things desert life wasn’t for us but the hiking around the area was unparalleled, will miss that.

I remember getting gas in the Midwest, it was $2.39 last fall.

So Trump would never referred to himself as Teddy Roosevelt by banning exploration and drilling for over a decade off the coasts of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia? Trump wouldn’t have stood by as 5 refineries permanently closed and no replacements were on the drawing board? And Trump didn’t let 3.5 years of leasing opportunity for Alaska’s Cook Inlet waste away? Just want to make sure.

Trump was a genius on many things. But all those above happened under his administration. Think of the oil that could be being produced and the gasoline making its way to the pumps.

Let’s also not forget Canadian Tar Sand oil would be bottled up in Canada because it can’t get to gulf coast refineries. Yet it is flowing to the gulf coast, getting loaded on boats and sent off to China. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-01-07/canadian-exports-of-crude-from-the-u-s-hit-a-record-last-month
