Charges dropped against Black man who shot at Florida cops issuing search warrant

A Black father will not face charges after he fired a shot at police officers that he mistook for intruders in his Florida home in February, a local prosecutor decided.

The Office of the State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit of Florida announced last month that attempted murder charges brought against Corey Marioneaux Jr. had been dropped.

After conducting a full review of the incident, authorities determined that there was not enough evidence to prove that Marioneaux had known he was firing at law enforcement who arrived at his Pensacola, Florida home to serve a search warrant, according to State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden.

No knock raids should be rare exceptions not the norm. I think that in addition to a judge signing a warrant, there should have to an elected official, especially the local sheriff, answerable to the voters to approve no knock raids.

I think that the judge who authorizes the no knock raid should be mandated to be on the scene to make sure that the raid is properly conducted.

Make them incredibly rare. Make it inconvenient for the judge.

Agree. And slamming through the door and simultaneously yelling “Police” isn’t enough, either. Two countermanding things coming virtually at the same time doesn’t leave room for conscious decision making in my opinion.

The fact that he is black and a father is irrelevant. This is an elementary civil rights issue.

“fired one shot at a SWAT team member that entered his home”

The article doesn’t tell us how the cop “entered his home.” This is deliberately trying to hide something. So I’ll go ahead and assume that the cop entered without announcing. SWAT teams are primed for action. Rational faculties are turned off, rendering them incapable of reasonable action.

The man should not have been charged.

Criminals should be put in prison - and kept there for the full duration of their sentence.

Gangs are know to announce themselves as police when they knock down doors to get people to freeze in their actions.

At 5 a.m. on February 3, Marioneaux fired one shot at a
SWAT team member that entered his home, prompting a
detective to return fire at Marioneaux. No one was injured
by the gunfire, the Journal reports.

I guess the questions remains was he notified that they were
law enforcement? I'm assuming they were wearing police uniforms.

No offense, but that article sucks (I fault them).

Better detail:

https://www.pnj.com/story/news/crime/2022/03/23/corey-marioneaux-no-charges-filed-pensacola-police-swat-case/7147642001/

“Marioneaux was charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer Feb. 3 after he fired a single bullet at a PPD SWAT team member who entered his home in the 2500 block of North Seventh Avenue to execute a search warrant.

According to police, the SWAT team entered Marioneaux’s home searching for physical evidence related to a Jan. 22 shooting in downtown Pensacola in which two people were injured.”

After the SWAT team entered the dwelling, Marioneaux fired a bullet that struck an officer’s ballistic shield, an arrest report said.”

I, for one, would like to know how they got a warrant to search a man’s home with no criminal record related to an earlier shooting.

Well, now:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/new-documents-explain-why-police-executed-search-warrant-at-pensacola-home/ar-AATTQBY

“In the days following, Pensacola Police told Channel 3 the search warrant was in relation to a shooting near downtown Pensacola on Jan. 22. Police also said Marioneaux Jr. is not a suspect in the unsolved case that left two men injured.

According to the affidavit obtained Tuesday, one of the people shot on Jan. 22 was a man convicted for his involvement in the murder of Corey Marioneaux Jr.’s brother in 2013. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The affidavit states cameras show a white Ford F-150 shooting at the man on Jan. 22 at Palafox and Garden streets.

According to the document, one of Marioneax Jr.’s family member’s rented the truck on the same day in December that the man was released from prison.

The affidavit says video captured a man matching Marioneax Jr.’s description returning the truck the day after the shooting.

The documents state investigators say they found a third family member’s fingerprints in the truck.”

Police f$*ked up. Sounds like they were investigating a hit by a man who has stupid genes which run in the family.

He just won the lottery.

I'm assuming they were wearing police uniforms.

Maybe, under their SWAT gear...

Even some of the SWAT teams do not have POLICE on their gear.
