Collins, Murkowski, Romney help break deadlock on Jackson’s nomination

Senate Democrats, backed by three GOP senators, voted on Monday night to break a deadlock on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination, paving the way for her to be confirmed by the end of the week.

Senators voted 53-47 to formally discharge Jackson’s nomination to the full Senate. It’s the first time the Senate has had to take the procedural step for a Supreme Court nominee since 1853.

GOP Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Mitt Romney (Utah) voted with Democrats to make Jackson’s nomination available for a full Senate vote.

This didn't occur in committee. The committee deadlocked and so it didn't report the nomination out to the whole Senate. This was a vote by the whole Senate to discharge the nomination from the committee to the floor of the Senate so it can be voted on. But yes, he knows what he has in these three, as do we all.

It sucks, but ultimately they don’t matter. Heels-up would have broken the tie for the 51st vote.

As someone else pointed out, this is good news as they aren’t even trying to salvage their next elections. They know they’re goners and just going to let their freak flags fly until their terms are over.

I changed affiliation to independent when collins and snowe voted for cloture on Obama care. I have no regrets.

An event that literally never, ever occurred left such an impression on you that you changed party affiliations? Extraordinary.

Neither Snowe nor Collins voted for cloture. It is why the Democrats were forced to use reconciliation to pass it after Brown got elected in Massachusetts.
