The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will now consider how pipelines and related natural gas projects affect climate change and environmental justice communities, the commission ruled in a 3-to-2 vote on Thursday.
The ruling marks the first time that FERC, an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, oil, and natural gas, has updated its policy for reviewing gas projects since 1999.
Environmental advocates hailed the move, saying it will provide a crucial new avenue for blocking new fossil fuel infrastructure and staving off the worst effects of the climate crisis. But conservatives and industry groups slammed the decision, asserting that it will prevent millions of Americans from accessing affordable energy.
The guidance also states that if a project's emissions are expected to exceed 100,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, the commission will prepare an environmental impact statement under the National Environmental Policy Act — a much more comprehensive document than an environmental assessment.
In theory, the guidance means that FERC could block the construction and operation of interstate natural gas pipelines, storage facilities and liquefied natural gas terminals if it finds that their climate damages outweigh their benefits.

clown world
Oh goody goody ... here comes the Climate Change Police.
For a natural gas pipeline? These people are totally insane.
CARB
Making up regulations without anyone voting on it.
Pipelines do not change climate. This is about destroying America by Marxists and Brandon Junta.
As long as the delusional, irrational Democrats have power, they will do all they can to destroy the American economy.
Liberal handicap imposed by fools
Using the the climate BS to impose tyranny was always the goal. The hoax is everything to the rats. Control, power and unlimited funding. This escalation is just the next step.
Any guess what the findings will be for every oil and gas pipeline?
THERE IS NO RIGHT WAY TO DO THE WRONG THING.
“Federal Pipeline Regulators” are patently unconstitutional positions in a patently unconstitutional regulatory agency in in the mostly unconstitutional federal government.
When will the Patriotic Right stand up, fight against this illegal apparatus, and destroy the 80%+ unconstitutional portion of the feds which daily threatens our lives, fortunes, and sacred honor?
It becomes clearer and clearer every day. Much of federal government needs to be completely eliminated. It is a weapon being used against the people. Put these lazy ass, pension seeking, leftist government employees in the unemployment line. Just shut it down. The choice is simple: your economic survival or theirs. They live in a world of zero economic consequence as long as they are employed by government. It is time to change that.
The pipeline NAZI:
“No pipeline for you!”
That is not the point. They do negatively impact persons of color, womyn, children and LGBTQs. And they cause increased cavities, less clean laundry outcomes, increased crime and inequity and also cause food poisoning in cute little furry creatures. Did I mention homophobia, too? Yeah, I guess I did. Pipelines, they're bad.
They’ve broken into the cockpit and are heading straight for that building.
This is an entirely subjective standard that allows any project to be blocked if the correct people object to it. In practice, it will mean that no project can be completed without payment of whatever amounts that the leftist groups complaining about it are able to extract. Welcome to the third world.
In other news, there’ll be no new projects.
I predict the US will go bankrupt before Obama’s property is flooded.
Ueah... Because I wasn’t happy enough paying $5 a gallon and the highest for nat gas ever. We need someone who will shut down all the pipelines and move shipping fuel by rail and truck to save me from climate change. And let me guess. Those “climate justice communities” ( whatever that means) will be given welfare to make up for the necessarily skyrocketing energy costs.
