The American West’s megadrought deepened so much last year that it is now the driest in at least 1,200 years and is a worst-case climate change scenario playing out live, a new study finds.
A dramatic drying in 2021 — about as dry as 2002 and one of the driest years ever recorded for the region — pushed the 22-year drought past the previous record-holder for megadroughts in the late 1500s and shows no signs of easing in the near future, according to a study Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change.
The study calculated that 42% of this megadrought can be attributed to human-caused climate change.
“Climate change is changing the baseline conditions toward a drier, gradually drier state in the West and that means the worst-case scenario keeps getting worse,” said study lead author Park Williams, a climate hydrologist at UCLA. “This is right in line with what people were thinking of in the 1900s as a worst-case scenario. But today I think we need to be even preparing for conditions in the future that are far worse than this.”
Williams used 29 models to create a hypothetical world with no human-caused warming then compared it to what happened in real life — the scientifically accepted way to check if an extreme weather event is due to climate change.

Dry in desert climates, who could have known. C’mon up to the Northeast, plenty of water if you can handle the Blue state taxes and lack of freedoms.
Just ignore the record snowpacks in the mountains.
And there’s an island of floating plastic in the Pacific that’s the size of California.
And soon the earth will be a burning ball of fire.
So, it’s a dry today as it was 1200 years ago? The driest in 1200 years?
Sounds like the climate changed, and it’s changing back. It may change again. Who knows?
If we just would have banned fossil fuels 1200 years ago...
My understanding has been that dry conditions result from cooling — water gets locked up in ice and the world becomes drier. In warm periods, the Sahara gets greener. More water, more evaporation, more rain. This article talks about human-caused warming and a megadrought. I think they just say what they want to say. There is no science here.
How many people there 1200 years ago. This is all cr** and doesn’t mean a thing. It’s 2022...live with it.
Maybe he Air Force did it:https://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/air-force-bombshell-admits-they-can-control-weather-haarp/
We still have 1.5 to 2 feet of snow on the ground in oir north Idaho neighborhood.
1,200 years? Huh. Imagine that: Native Americans had meteorologists that kept accurate records of annual rainfall.
Are we at Giga-drought yet?
There are settlements in the desert southwest that were abandoned hundreds of years ago. Very well-built settlements. These were abandoned because of drought. It’s the desert. Drought happens.
So much BS in so few paragraphs.
Tree rings?

sounds like solid science to me.
Tony Heller at realclimatescience.com has been all over this scam for about 14 years now. As fast as these lunatics turn out another scare article he debunks it with real data and old news reports. It’s a great source of detox for the MSM horsecrap.
Williams ABUSED 29 models and CREATED a hypothetical world...."
Hypotheses require proof, or they are discarded. Models require accuracy, or are deemed to fail. Fictions merely requires a temporary suspension of belief.
One finds "the intentional avoidance of critical thinking or logic in examining something unreal or impossible in reality, such as a work of speculative fiction, in order to believe it for the sake of enjoyment." Or grant money.
So what caused it in the 1500s?
Guess the 1930s dust bowl never happened...
