RUBIO WARNS: If Mike Pence could decide last election, what’s to stop Kamala Harris deciding next?
The Washington Times ^ | Feb 6 | By Seth McLaughlin

Posted on 02/06/2022 1:45:46 PM PST by RandFan

Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday that “vice presidents can’t simply decide not to certify” the result of an election, distancing himself from the repeated claims of former President Donald Trump.

Mr. Trump has insisted that former Vice President Mike Pence could have changed the results of the 2020 election.

“I just don’t think a vice president has that power,” Mr. Rubio said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“If President Trump runs for reelection, I believe he would defeat Joe Biden — and I don’t want Kamala Harris to have the power as vice president to overturn that election,” he said. “That is the same thing that I concluded in January of 2021.”

Mr. Pence scored headlines last week after delivering remarks before the Federalist Society in which he said, “President Trump is wrong.

“I had no right to overturn the election,” Mr. Pence said.

The Pennsylvania legislature sent Pence an official document advising Pence not to accept the PA electors.

I wish Freepers would stop peddling this verifiably false crap.

The Pennsylvania legislature has more than 250 members. It may even be the largest legislature in any state. A half-dozen of them writing a letter doesn’t mean “the legislature sent Pence” a damn thing.

Who did those 2 million Pennsylvanians vote for?

Now you see the problem with correcting the results of an election AFTER Election Day, right?

Rubio has a point. I most certainly do NOT want Kamala deciding election in 2024.

Pence did decide not to find out and verify who really won.

Exactly right.

These fools act like we expected Pence to just up and declare Trump the big winner: "By the power vested in me as Vice President, I will now choose the next President for the country"??????

All anyone wanted was for Pence to say "Let's find out if this was counted correctly. Let's verify who really won."

That's not unreasonable. Is that really something the vice president can do? I don't know. No one knows. Like a lot of things, who can try it and find out. Maybe the Supreme Court would slap him down and say Pence chose badly. Who knows? But maybe, instead, the election could have been verified. I think it was worth a shot.

But Pence wouldn't even try. I say Pence chose badly. He's dead to me.

Pres Trump never asked Pence to change the results or outcome.

He wanted the decision to be delayed while fraud claims were explored.

Didn’t some of the courts decided that the election was over and done with, so nothing is changing that.

Had the election results not been finalized there could have been different outcomes in court.

It’s power, but there must be a rationale for refraining from certifying or else chaos would certainly ensue.

And it’s not the power to “overturn” as Pence obtusely puts it. It’s the power to hold state actors’ feet to the fire for dirty tricks and monkey business.

How many POTUS election cycles do you think it would take a state to get its electoral act in order once a sitting VP called the validity of its particular certification into question?

__________

Trump didn’t want Pence deciding the 2020 election.

False base premises yield false conclusions.

Democrats are still saying every election won by a Republican in the past three decades was stolen, but don’t you dare say 2020 was stolen.

What facts? That is the problem. Pence never would have been able to change the election and Trump never made an argument that the election was stolen.

There were 32 from PA.

The re-election of President Donald J. Trump was overturned in the wee morning hours of Wednesday, November 4th.

Rubio and Pence can go to a foam party together.

It’s now February of 2022 and there hasn’t been a single state where sufficient evidence was presented to alter that state’s results in the 2020 election. How long was this process supposed to take, and who was supposed to be president while all this was going on?

Great. That might have meant something if the PA legislature had 50 members, but since there are 250+ my point still stands.

I don't like Rubio, but I agree with him on this.

What was being asked of Mike Pence on Jan 6 was not something he should have nor likely could have done.

It was up to the states to certify. And it was up to Congress to vote to investigate if there were questions about the certifications.

Pence did what he could. He allowed the objections.

Pelosi's hijacking of the Jan 6 protest unduly influenced Congress, but it was unlikely to have voted to audit the vote anyway.

Congress would have promptly censured Pence, possibly even impeaching him, had he not certified the election.

My criticisms of Pence is that:

Still waiting for a citation — give us a quote so we won’t have to look it up — of the Constitutional provision allowing Pence to keep the Congress from approving the electors sent by the states. Sure, the votes were rigged; but our founding fathers never envisioned giving the Vice President the power to remedy this. If Pence had tried to do this, both he and Trump would have gone down in flames.

“The Pennsylvania legislature sent Pence an official document advising Pence not to accept the PA electors.”

No, the PA Legislature did not send any letter to Pence or Congress.

There are 253 legislators in PA, 53 State Senators and 203 in the PA House of Reprsentatives. There was an initial letter sent that was (supposedly) endorsed by 75 Republican members of the PA legislature. PA Republicans sent a second corrected letter endorsed by 64 Republican State Legislators saying that the first letter was in error as far as the number of Republicans who endorsed it.

Either way, whether it was 75 signatures or 64, the number of members of the PA legislature who endorsed the letter was fewer than 1/3 of the total members of the PA Legislature.

I haven’t seen where any state legislature met and voted to recall a slate of electors or electoral ballots in the 2020 election.

I don’t care when an unconstitutional vote is corrected, and neither should anyone else.
