The Electric Vehicle Scam

In order to match the 2,000 cars that a typical filling station can service in a busy 12 hours, an EV charging station would require 600, 50-watt chargers at an estimated cost of $24 million and a supply of 30 megawatts of power from the grid. That is enough to power 20,000 homes. No one likely thinks about the fact that it can take 30 minutes to 8 hours to recharge a vehicle between empty or just topping off. What are the drivers doing during that time?

ICSC-Canada board member New Zealand-based consulting engineer Bryan Leyland describes why installing electric car charging stations in a city is impractical:

“If you’ve got cars coming into a petrol station, they would stay for an average of five minutes. If you’ve got cars coming into an electric charging station, they would be at least 30 minutes, possibly an hour, but let’s say its 30 minutes. So that’s six times the surface area to park the cars while they’re being charged. So, multiply every petrol station in a city by six. Where are you going to find the place to put them?”

The government of the United Kingdom is already starting to plan for power shortages caused by the charging of thousands of EVs. Starting in June 2022, the government will restrict the time of day you can charge your EV battery. To do this, they will employ smart meters that are programmed to automatically switch off EV charging in peak times to avoid potential blackouts.

well the scenario with chain-reaction dead EVs is that several thousand EVs take off to evade a disaster at the same time, but many don’t have a full charge and so those give out first, causing the whole gaggle to stall, with the next poorest charged ones giving up the ghost next, and so on until there’d be miles of dead EVs stalled essentially forever, as there’d be no way to perform a mass charge or a mass tow ... especially if all of the emergency vehicles themselves were EVs ... and even if bunches of them did manage to get some distance away, there’s be no way at whatever destination they did mange to reach to recharge that many all at once ...

I guess I should have asked if the original owners of the EVs would/have buy another one.

So far I know two who have. Both originally bought 2014 Model S cars.

One crashed his first one, not real surprising because he has a lead foot and Teslas are really fast. The other guy just wanted the latest upgrades that his first car couldn’t support.

There's no charger there. He's pulling it off the main power.

Huh?

If there WAS a charger there; it's source IS the 'main power'!

Car companies want to go to EV’s because they take a 1/3 of the labor to produce and 1/2 the parts.

You left out 5/3 of the cost.

It’s all about maximizing profit and minimizing labor cost.

Some product creators manage this by low cost and volume.

If you increase the size of an electron to the size of the earth, it’ll weigh less than a feather.

Have you the math handy that explains this?

The reality is that the powers that be wish to remove mobility from the middle class. This is the way they do it legislate it away one rule at a time.

Any EV can get that mileage if you load it with enough batteries. But then you are carrying more weight. Musk argues that it’s a mistake to go that route, that you have to balance battery capacity and performance.

And here's a comparison of battery packs.

Why does this amuse you in any way? I’ve pointed out that for some people, the use cases are perfect for EV, but for others, not so much. If I lived in Montréal, I would not want a Tesla, but I drove one as a daily in SoCal. If you have to pull a fifth wheel 1000 miles on a regular basis, an EV is not for you. Do I have an EV at my houses in Europe? No, because the use case isn’t there. Everyone must make his own decision.

Yes, I like Teslas. I also like 12 cylinders screaming near redline. Try to be a bit more open-minded.

The only they can address the charge, real-estate, capacity problems (barring some 23rd Century tech miracle) is to force all EV manufacturers to develop automated drive-up-release-and-swapout batteries that are universal across manufacturer platforms like propane tank exchanges.

Even with that, it is a huge sunk cost for the suppliers.
