The Electric Vehicle Scam

In order to match the 2,000 cars that a typical filling station can service in a busy 12 hours, an EV charging station would require 600, 50-watt chargers at an estimated cost of $24 million and a supply of 30 megawatts of power from the grid. That is enough to power 20,000 homes. No one likely thinks about the fact that it can take 30 minutes to 8 hours to recharge a vehicle between empty or just topping off. What are the drivers doing during that time?

ICSC-Canada board member New Zealand-based consulting engineer Bryan Leyland describes why installing electric car charging stations in a city is impractical:

“If you’ve got cars coming into a petrol station, they would stay for an average of five minutes. If you’ve got cars coming into an electric charging station, they would be at least 30 minutes, possibly an hour, but let’s say its 30 minutes. So that’s six times the surface area to park the cars while they’re being charged. So, multiply every petrol station in a city by six. Where are you going to find the place to put them?”

The government of the United Kingdom is already starting to plan for power shortages caused by the charging of thousands of EVs. Starting in June 2022, the government will restrict the time of day you can charge your EV battery. To do this, they will employ smart meters that are programmed to automatically switch off EV charging in peak times to avoid potential blackouts.

EVs were on track to happen with or without gov’t subsidies. Might have taken longer to overcome the chicken-and-egg problem of EVs vs chargers, and there was certainly a boost when Georgia made the Nissan Leaf practically free for 2 year lease. Pretty clear Musk was going to push the tech with or without gov’t help, and if legislators want to throw billions his way it would be stupid to not take it.

I agree, this is the way of the future.

In extremely rural areas, I have seen pics of charging stations but they have to have generators running to feed them, since they are so remote.

I had a freaking epiphany, I think I’m gonna make a million off this.

Check it. You get a trailer and you put the generator on the trailer, then, you hook the electric to the charging station on the front of the trailer. Then, you connect the car to the charging station, and you can recharge WHILE YOU DRIVE!

I’m also thinking about putting a windmill on the trailer too... but that will be v2.

Growing numbers of people are buying EVs because they see the value in them or it fits their needs and they have no interest in it being green.

Time will tell if there is a market for USED EVs.

LOL, I didn't say "does."

You are a phony. Answer my question from #230.

If EV makers are selling all they can sell, why do you care about convincing a tiny internet outpost about their utility? Why do you think it's any of yor business? In an earlier post, you said you don't care what I drive. But it's obvious that you do, since I said I have no interest in or need for an EV. I've never said they shouldn't be made; I've actually said that in many cases, they could be the ideal vehicle.

No one here is suggesting EVs be banned. Are you butt hurt when someone makes a joke about EVs? Is that it?

No. I am questioning your motives in your posting about the subject.

Glad he’s gone. Gasoline car cabin heaters put out about 4 kW. So 20 hours of heat, at best, if you’re not moving and it’s cold out. 72 hours perhaps if it’s not too cold outside...but then again, you probably won’t freeze either.

Also note that it is much, much, easier to keep a gas tank topped off in bad weather than to even top off a Tesla in the same conditions (since the charge rate goes way down towards the end)...not to mention having to find something to do during all that waiting time.

Too bad even China can’t make money making solar panels, even with slave/prison labor, or you could be all solar!

“Time will tell if there is a market for USED EVs.”

There already is a market in SoCal. One of my friends is driving a used Tesla after crashing his original which he bought in 2014. I think he bought the used one because he didn’t want to wait around for a new one. I have five friends driving Teslas and they are as common in Orange County now as the Mercedes once was.

LOL, no he does it so he can make it home after he runs some errands, because he didn’t plan out his milage. Do you think it’s OK for him to steal his employers electricity? If he couldn’t charge it at work, what would he do? Sure can’t just run by one of the dozen gas stations within a half mile, spend 3 minutes, and not have to worry about it again for another week.

QuantumScape. Solid Power. Contemporary Amperex Technology. And probably the heavyweights like Panasonic without making it known publicly.

” a chain reaction of dead batteries ensues, with no possible cure, and soon tens or hundreds of thousands of dead EVs are pretty much permanently stalled”

I know that Teslas used to into “Brick Mode” when the battery died, with the wheels locking up. Not sure if they still do that, but in that mode, you can’t even push them out of the way.

“That’s all well and good, but what about when the battery will no longer hold a charge and the dealer tells you a new battery will cost $15,000? “

Musk has an app for that.

“steal”? WTF? I worked two places that had chargers, cost 4 bucks to fully charge ~100 miles range. Some places offer it free. If it’s right there, and cheap, then just becomes habit to plug in; you’d do the same if gas top-off was equally convenient.

“If he couldn’t charge it at work, what would he do?” Charge at home, like most EV owners. No biggie. Was nice to almost never have to go to a station, just plug in when arriving home, unplug when leaving, topped off every morning.

“It was kind of funny seeing three Tesla owners looking bored and sanctimonious at the same time while the rest of us pulled in, got gas and left, ready for another week of driving.”

Some nerve you have. How about offering them coffee and biscuits? After all, they have a LOT of time to kill...

Leftist run cities can’t even handle the air conditioners going on every summer, how are they going to handle electric cars on top of that? When I lived in NYC ever freakin’ summer we had blackouts.

The first time that I saw a Tesla was in 2013 when someone was having a 240 line installed in their garage. I asked him why he bought it; he said “I used to race Porsches. But this is the fastest car I’ve driven in my life. It will pin you to the seat”.

Yeah, "STEAL." There's no charger there. He's pulling it off the main power.

just plug in when arriving home, unplug when leaving, topped off every morning.

Cool, like doing the laundry?

“I don’t want 2 or 3 cars. I want one that does everything I might need it to do.

Funny, my Japanese car seems to do everything that I need. Tell me again why some people here support eliminating my access to them?
