Major U.S. car brand to go full electric, will no longer offer internal combustion vehicles

Automaker Chrysler just announced plans to go completely electric by 2028, anticipating the release of its first electric vehicle by 2025.

Chrysler announced the plans along with a new AI-enabled vehicle system powered by a battery that the company says can travel 350 to 400 miles per charge, as The Associated Press reported.

Chrysler is part of Europe’s Stellantis, which last month announced a new strategy to embed AI-enabled software into millions of vehicles across its 14 different brands. This could gain Stellantis $22.6 billion in annual revenue by 2030.

This is all part of the race among automakers to produce more completely electric and hybrid cars that also have more autonomous driving features. Overall, this would begin shifting cars away from gasoline-powered engines.

As one of the main American brands of Stellantis, Chrysler will be on the front lines of this change in the auto industry in North America.

“I got bashed for saying EV’s will be 50% market share by 2030.

It’s basically guaranteed. Just watch the trends. It won’t need force, just market powers.”

The range will have to increase to 450 miles and the charging time will have to decrease to 5-7 minutes before I will seriously consider replacing both of our ICE cars with EVs. As others here have said, it may make sense to have one EV for local use in a two-car household. That may be how EVs get to 50% market share eventually.

I wonder what Jeep buyers are going to think about this. Off roaders can bring extra cans of gas, but how do you bring extra batteries? The weight would be tremendous.

Imagine what will happen when the next major hurricane knocks out power for weeks. And forget using generators in any kind of emergency when “fossil fuels” are no longer available. This is pure idiocy of the highest order.

UH...

...never mind.

Mercedes’ range claim for this concept vehicle is based on computer simulated testing, not actual driving, the company said.

People don’t buy ‘used’ electrical vehicles... They simply become trash.

Which is why many people simply won't be able to drive. I've always bought used. Never had a new car in my life.

I wonder what Jeep buyers are going to think about this.

The Chrysler "brand" as of right now only includes the Pacifica minivan and the Chrysler 300 mid-sized sedan, both low sellers. It does NOT include Dodge, Jeep or Dodge Trucks/RAM.

I think the article is purposefully misleading.

go completely electric by 2028, anticipating the release of its first electric vehicle by 2025.

No rational business would overhaul their complete business model this radically in such a short time for financial reasons. This appears to be more of an indicator that the world’s authoritarians are desperately speeding up their schedule.

It’s not moving fast, but ICE has been stagnant for 50+ years.

What?

50 years ago, a 350 with a four barrel got 7-10 mpg in a truck. Now the 6.0 liter gets 20mpg and puts out near zero emissions while doing so.

50 years ago, an engine might make it 100k miles. Now they make it to 300k.

You really are a braindead Houserino

Chrysler flopped before, it’ll flop again.

There will be a major push back in regard to electric vehicles for a few of reasons.

>Rare earth metal shortages.
>Expense to replace batteries. Expense of vehicle purchase.
>Electrical grid outages will hamstring consumers charging capabilities.

I’m a serious MOPAR gear head, but I won’t be buying any of their electric models. I’ll keep the old ones alive, as long as I can get parts, but no new ones for me.

In 2026 or 2027, I’ll look for a used 2024 Hellcat and that will be the last car I buy.

Look at what self driving vehicles did to the Boeing 737, the most reliable plane in aviation history. Lessons taught, nothing learned.

When the batteries die and the average owner can’t pay to replace them, they can blow them up for some fun.
