Major U.S. car brand to go full electric, will no longer offer internal combustion vehicles

Automaker Chrysler just announced plans to go completely electric by 2028, anticipating the release of its first electric vehicle by 2025.

Chrysler announced the plans along with a new AI-enabled vehicle system powered by a battery that the company says can travel 350 to 400 miles per charge, as The Associated Press reported.

Chrysler is part of Europe’s Stellantis, which last month announced a new strategy to embed AI-enabled software into millions of vehicles across its 14 different brands. This could gain Stellantis $22.6 billion in annual revenue by 2030.

This is all part of the race among automakers to produce more completely electric and hybrid cars that also have more autonomous driving features. Overall, this would begin shifting cars away from gasoline-powered engines.

As one of the main American brands of Stellantis, Chrysler will be on the front lines of this change in the auto industry in North America.

It’s basically guaranteed. Just watch the trends. It won’t need force, just market powers.

You mean Government powers to tax the hell out of gasoline and ICE cars.

I'm thinking about getting an EV whenever we have to replace one of our two cars. IMHO an EV better at some things and a gas car is better at others. If a family has to have two cars anyway, why not one of each?

I was looking at Ford's F-150 Lightning, but they're now expecting $75K for the 300 mile version. Nope. That's too much. I'll keep buying an old used pickup truck every 5 years or so until that price comes way down.

Every Socialist Democrat I know in Real Life rides the bus...just to feel Morally Superior to the rest of us...while polluting MORE than a few cars would, and ALWAYS being late for work. IF they work. ;)

I used to run one ton dodge vans and always got 350k plus out of them. I didn’t do more than regular maintenance with oil changes every 5000 mi. When they killed the LA small block and replaced it with the timing disaster 4.7 That was the end of Chrysler

Charging to 100% on a regular basis significantly reduces the life of the battery and running down close to zero does too.

Take any advertised range and figure a maximum of 80% of that, and that assumes you aren’t using heat or AC.

They aren’t serious.

1. They trying to score greenie points
2. They are going after government subsidies

This will be like CAFE (fuel efficiency) standards for automakers. They’ll find a way to officially meet the goal while at the same time ignoring it.

Nobody believes they can convert their entire lineup to electric cars in just 6 years.

Besides, it would be corporate suicide, if for no other reason there won’t be enough charging stations.

It’s not moving fast, but ICE has been stagnant for 50+ years. Betting against the EV market force now is a lot like going for vacuum tubes in the 60s. It’s the dead end.

Lee Iacocca, who helped developed the Mustang for Ford, joined Chrysler and at least paid back that bail out to the Government about 7 years ahead of schedule.

GM on the other hand repaid the loan portion of the bailout ahead of schedule, with interest. It used TARP money ($49.5B) it had already received but hadn’t spent. Taxpayers are still stuck with GM stock that isn’t worth what was paid for it.

Not a fan of either brand now...

Still, it set the horrible precedent of government trying to determine the winners and losers in the market, so the expectation was set.

Nearly all states produce more electricity than they use.

Washington state sells 25% of it electrical power to Canada every year for instance

177 new natural gas powered plants are currently being built. 2 are under construction where I live
