Pastor apologizes for hosting event featuring Michael Flynn
Arutz Sheva ^ | 20/11/21

The Christian Zionist pastor of a major church asked forgiveness for allowing the church to host an event where Michael Flynn said that the United States should only have one religion.

“Last week I allowed an event to be held at Cornerstone Church by an outside organization,” Pastor Matt Hagee said in a statement Thursday. “Regrettably, the organization was not properly vetted. It was not appropriate to allow this event at our church. The Church is not associated with this organization and does not endorse their views.”

Hagee’s father is Pastor John Hagee, who founded Christians United For Israel, the powerhouse Christian pro-Israel group.

The event took place on Saturday and was part of ReAwaken America, a Christian-themed speaking tour backed by the Christian news network America Faith. Flynn, former US President Donald Trump’s first national security adviser, gave a speech at the event calling for a single US religion.

Flynn is also one of the most ardent defenders of Trump’s false claim that he won last year’s presidential election.

“If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion,” Flynn said. “One nation under God, and one religion under God.”

I spent half a day finding his full speech and it was inclusive of all forms of Christianity and equated to, We need to get back to being good Christians and that Christians need to get off their butts and get involved with politics starting at the local level.

That’s what the whole ReAwaken America tour is about because it’s pretty obvious that the Left is godless, consider themselves superior to the rest of us and is taking over.

It’s all about fighting back and he and others are aiming that message at Christians. Would we prefer that message was aimed at people who don’t believe in God or people who worship Allah? What other religions are even prevalent?

It’s about getting back to the values that started this country.

That is true. Does Hagee believe that all should be saved? If so he basically believes what Flynn said. If not he is apostate to the great commission and is a fraud.

No, there’s only one way to God. You know that, I know that.
However, the idea of ‘one religion for our nation’
runs into one great big roadblock: the First Amendment.

Yes, those other religions are wrong, but the Liberty we claim to stand for says that a man has the right to be wrong...whether we like it or not.

I know I’m speaking an unpopular opinion, but I believe it’s the truth.

It isn’t really appropriate for a church to host an event of this sort even if nothing questionable had been said. It’s church - keep it church.

“I thought the idea was not to have one religion imposed upon people.”

That’s exactly right - freedom means freedom. Freedom can’t be conditional or it’s not freedom.

Michael Flynn doesn’t get that.

Conservatives always make the mistake of choosing allies based on who the enemy is today. In the long run, conservatives have only one friend: individual freedom - and only ONE enemy: state tyranny.

In 2001, following 9/11, we forgot that, and we were convinced that the most important issue was not individual freedom, but rather national security. The result? The Patriot Act, Homeland Security, a weaponized national security apparatus, and devastating infringements on our civil liberties.

At the time, we thought this national-security-apparatus-on-steroids would be weaponized against our enemies - Islamic terrorists - now we see that it can be weaponized against us.

General Flynn is our ally because we have common enemies at the moment.

But just as George W Bush and company were willing to trade away our right to privacy for the promise of national security - we can plainly see that Flynn is ready to trade away another one of our civil liberties - freedom of religion - in order to vanquish today’s enemy - the deep state.

The vicious cycle will never end as long as we keep trading one bully for another.

No kidding. Over 25 replies so far and no one has hit on the real reason for this controversy.

I know, because this story made the news some 3-4 days ago. It was posted on FR as well.

There should be only one religion period.

I think Flynn meant that all Americans should be deists and recognize a supreme being. That is an interpretation consistent with our founding documents.

Concurring bump...Gen. Flynn was talking about uniting the country around a belief in God. He went on to say 'I don't care what your ecumenical service is' or words to that effect. Last month they were complaining Flynn was reciting a satanic prayer or some such.

Born again Christian groups and their allies do seem to be watching Flynn closely and attacking him wherever they can. Last month they were claiming Flynn was invoking Satan during one of his speeches.

“I would be puzzled by that statement because I thought the idea was not to have one religion imposed upon people.”

Flynn said not one word about imposing religion upon people. Our Founding Fathers believed in established Christian religion. Nine of the 13 colonies had established Christian churches. That is why the first amendment starts off with “And Congress shall not...” They did not want Congress preempting what they regarded as a state’s right regarding establishing a religion. And with their established churches they did not impose religion on people.

But I realize you are more pure than our Founders.

John Hagee was always a more vigorous proponent of Israel than the United States.

Even before the First Amendment was adopted, the original text of the Constitution included the words "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States" (Article VI).

At that time some states had religious tests but there was too much variety among Protestants in the country as a whole (Catholics and Jews were so few in number that they might have ignored them) for any one religion to be selected as the official religion. Obviously the country has become much more diverse in religious terms since then, not to mention the large number of people who profess no religion. Michael Flynn is nuts if he thinks it would be practical or desirable to try to impose one religion on everyone (presumably some least-common-denominator version of Protestantism).

A rabbi once told me something I never forgot, he said “you can tell me what god you serve, but I will know what god you serve only by observing how you conduct your life”.

Words mean little, actions convey much more.

God is the ONLY God . . . God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Everyone has a choice to be a child of God or a child of satan. No fence sitters in heaven.

The confluence of politics and religion is what gave us our liberty and our country. Read your History. America was founded as a Christian nation.

to try to impose one religion on everyone
= = =

Did he try to impose, or

“If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion,” Flynn said.

Was he just stating an ideal case, that the nation is best with one religion (which would be Salvation by Christ only).
