Top general warns China could soon spring surprise nuclear strike on US

The second-ranking general in the US military has sounded the alarm about China’s weapons development — warning that Beijing may soon have the capability to launch a surprise nuclear strike against America.

“They look like a first-use weapon,” Gen. John Hyten, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told CBS News Tuesday. “That’s what those weapons look like to me.”

Hyten was discussing China’s test of a hypersonic weapon from this summer, which was first reported by the Financial Times last month.

“They launched a long-range missile,” Hyten said. “It went around the world, dropped off a hypersonic glide vehicle that glided all the way back to China, that impacted a target in China.”

OMG! This is terrifying.

Whatever we are currently paying to Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, BAE, etc....WE NEED TO DOUBLE IT!

I am sure that a guy who will likely be working for these companies in a couple years when he retires, would come at this topic completely objectively.

Yes,it’s easy to believe that they have the *capability* to do so now.But IMO it’s unlikely that they have the will...because unless they’re seeking complete destruction of civilization they’ll be afraid of the response.

What makes you think we have a POTUS that would order a retaliatory strike? What makes you think we have Generals that would carry out a retaliatory strike?

If the US gets nuked, I would not be surprised if it wasn't our nukes used on us by Zhou Xiden, Lloyd Austin and Milley.

And Biden is helping China. You can bet on it. Draining our oil reserves is designed to make us helpless.

“So, what does China do with a radiated America?”

Go back to a command-directed economy like they had 1950 - 1990.

They’ve used America to get the foreign cash they needed to build build their armed forces back to the level of national dominance they had in the early 1950s. With America out of the way there will be no one to stop them.

there is absolutely zero comparison between pre WWI Europe’s commercial inter-relationships to the reality of today’s economy and nuclear deterrents.

It’s a false analogy

The combatants in Europe in 1915 did not have the ability to completely destroy their enemies. They had the ability to capture land of varying degrees of size — but Germany could not destroy France, England and France could not destroy Germany, and so forth

In this case, it is completely within the capabilities of The USA, Russia, England, France, and China to totally render any one of the others a completely non-functional (and probably non-existent) nation and economy through nuclear weapons

and in the case of the US and Russia and to a lesser extent China, at least two of these 3 have the capability to destroy any 1 of the other 4 major nuclear powers and then have plenty of weapons left over to destroy all of the remaining major nuke powers — and on a completely insane day, destroy the rest of the world.

So there is zero comparison in terms of inter-locked commerce.

The concerns this time are not the loss of a crucial trading partner as was the case in WWI.

The concern today is the brutal reality of a nuclear exchange.

The Hypersonic Glide Vehicles give the Chinese the ability to launch weapons in the *opposite* direction from the great-circle route from launch site to target. This makes predicting who China just launched against a little dicey. And that assumes that one of our recon satellites picks up the launch.

Milley had better call his Chinese general pal that he called when President Trump was President for a heads up.

I was the first to mention WWI because pre-war attitude was what I was talking about. There was “certainty” by the “opinion makers” that the interlocking European continental trade would prevent a continental war. You then go off on this “post WWI” tangent which had nothing to do with what I said. In fact I might have actually agreed with you regarding the 1920s-1940s but it was irrelevant to my original point. If you thought it was relevant then say so !

There was a “smug” certainty by those pre-WWI opinion makers ! However my “smug” statement wasn't aimed at you in particular. I also tried to make the point that holding a certainty (perhaps “smug”!) regarding world events usually brings disappointment. If you want to claim I called you”smug”. You need to think again ! Not every countering statement is a personal insult ! In fact I try not to insult people here. If I did and I get a mature objection to what I said. I will apologize for not being clear.

Again you're welcome to disagree about my comparison between the US-China & the run-up to WWI. I don't care ! It's my opinion and you can have yours.

Who actually thinks that Biden or Harris or Milley would launch a counter strike against the Chinese if we were attacked?

Hell, our own government hates this country as much as the Chinese do.

Your opinion I have a diffeent one.

If there’s anything that WWI should teach is is that country leadership miscalculates.

If you think any kind of nuclear war is winnable, then at what cost to humanity and the earth. I would say you are the one who is in a fantasy land.

I think that any kind of nuclear war is survivable - by those who take the necessary precautions.

Would we respond? China may gamble that the feckless idiots currently in charge are too compromised, cowardly, and foolish to do anything about it. I’m not sure that the leftists wouldn’t welcome an attack because it would do their demolition job for them. Don’t ever forget that they’re more CCP than they are American.
