New UC Riverside research shows soybean oil not only leads to obesity and diabetes, but could also affect neurological conditions like autism, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, and depression.
Specifically, the scientists found pronounced effects of the oil on the hypothalamus, where a number of critical processes take place.
“The hypothalamus regulates body weight via your metabolism, maintains body temperature, is critical for reproduction and physical growth as well as your response to stress,”
“The dogma is that saturated fat is bad and unsaturated fat is good. Soybean oil is a polyunsaturated fat, but the idea that it’s good for you is just not proven,” Sladek said.
Indeed, coconut oil, which contains saturated fats, produced very few changes in the hypothalamic genes.
“If there’s one message I want people to take away, it’s this: reduce consumption of soybean oil,” Deol said about the most recent study.

I cut out all major sources of soy and my testosterone levels rebounded to the “normal” range in just over a year. My doctor blamed it on being over 40, but I was convinced it was something in my food. I was right.
Never heard of it but will hunt it down, thanks!
“Say what you want but my cabinet contains: Extra virgin olive oil, Lard, Tallow, Duck Fat, and of course, Butter (grass-fed).”
A+. When’s dinner? lol
I’ve been studying this for years. It’s mainstream if on FR. They keep talking about “processed” foods without explaining. The biggest culprits are unexpected: salad dressing (anything that’s not olive oil) and mayonnaise (salad dressing on sandwiches, coleslaw and meat salads) are the two easiest things to eliminate from diet that make the biggest impact. Plus you need to add Omega-3, easy to do via walnuts, flaxseed and salmon.
I read somewhere there have been studies linking soy and cancer, soy and thyroid dysfunction. Will try to find it and post later.
Agreed. Natural, esp. animal-based, fats are the best for cooking. Coconut, olive, and peanut oils are the only plant-based oils we use anymore.
Send it to me, I will dispose of it safely and completely. Do it for Rover.
Best taste we‘ve found.
Sir Kensington’s Avocado oil mayo. Very, VERY good.

(ignore the outrageous price at link; I get it for under $5 at the discount stores and locally even at Whole Foods - at which I do NOT shop - the price is about $8 for a 16oz jar)
No different than tobacco or marijuana from my chair.
bkmk
Because soy triggers an estrogen response in women (and men).
They are very close but rapeseed oil is categorized for industrial use and has erucic acid level 2% or more where canola oil is classified as culinary has less than 2%.
The word canola oil was derived from the words Canada and oil.
I only use Crisco for baking. I have old recipes that call for it, specifically. Otherwise I use butter or olive oil.
Someone needs to update that famous "Lab" graphic to include a Soy Lab.
Dogs and cats living together. There you go. That's how these things happen.
Same here.. We're (me and her) are a little "chunky", but we're not ugly or nothing.. :)
I always thought palm oil was the most used oil in the world... (?)
Lard is best IMO.
Non-hydrogenated coconut oil is OK also.
Cold-pressed olive oil is nice...
Cottonseed oil is nasty.
