Senate Passes $3.5 Trillion Partisan Budget Plan, Clearing Way for Sweeping Government Expansion
NRO ^ | 11 Aug 2021 | Zachary Evans

The Senate approved the framework of a $3.5 trillion budget plan in a key procedural vote on Wednesday morning, allowing the body to move towards a final vote on the issue.

Senators voted to advance the framework 50-49 along party lines, with Senator Mike Rounds (R., S.D.) absent. The vote came just before 4 a.m. following a “vote-a-rama,” during which senators introduced amendments for largely symbolic votes designed to test the level of Senate support for various issues.

The plan provides for universal pre-kindergarten, free two-year community college, tax incentives for clean-energy sources to fight climate change, and an expansion of Medicare to cover dental, vision, and hearing. Democrats hope to cover the cost of the plan in part with tax hikes on corporations and high-earning families.

“Senate Democrats have just took a massive step towards restoring the middle class of the 21st century,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) said after the vote. “What we’re doing here is not easy. Democrats have labored for months to reach this point….But I can say with absolute certainty that it will be worth doing.”

Republicans unanimously opposed the plan, saying the amount of government spending in the proposal during a time of rising inflation is reckless.

“Republicans unanimously opposed the plan,”

That’s a damn lie!

They voted to move it forward 2 days ago.

The “bipartisan infrastructure deal” is the vehicle that enables the spendorama.

I hate those bastards...

before trump, the only time you ever voted in your life was when a whackjob was running; perot and buchanan.

LOL! I voted for Nixon 2x, Ford & Reagan 2x, but I fully understand why you tripped over your feet for the Bushes, Romney, McCain and god knows how many local Country Clubbers. You support these turds like a modern day Bobby Soxer!

Now back to your comment.

You realize the reason the two Georgia Never-Trumpers lost was because of Stacy Abrams and voter theft, right?

Reagan: an astonishing 186% (the highest figure since FDR) -- it's remarkable how utterly irresponsible that guy was when it came to fiscal matters.

That is pure Bull $h!t. Reagan's policies were great and federal revenues grew by almost 100% in 8 years. He was lied to about the cuts. Quit spreading half truths you globalist loser.

He was lied to about the cuts.

Stop being a mindless sycophant, dude.

Nobody who spent that much time as a successful political figure gets "lied to" about anything.

Apparently you weren't around in the 1980's. I guess you are about 40?

HOW DID THE REAGAN TAX CUTS AFFECT THE U.S. TREASURY?

Many critics of reducing taxes claim that the Reagan tax cuts drained the U.S. Treasury. The reality is that federal revenues increased significantly between 1980 and 1990:

Nah. That’s a value judgement you’re placing on him. He’s not a puppet like the Thief.

He went for the deal he could get, with the crook McConnell twisting and weaving to get his patrons a little more cash at every step of the way.

That’s what I recall. He wanted a real “infrastructure” bill, but Ryan and McConnell blocked him on that and now the remaining corrupticon splits the “Republican” party to vote for a Rat cash orgy. Nothing prudent about it.

I said nothing about tax cuts. I was 100% in favor of those tax cuts at the time.

A Federal budget has TWO parts: revenues and expenditures.

Total federal revenues doubled from just over $517 billion in 1980 to more than $1 trillion in 1990. In constant inflation-adjusted dollars, this was a 28 percent increase in revenue.

Why don't you post this item from the next section of that report:

Federal spending more than doubled, growing from almost $591 billion in 1980 to $1.25 trillion in 1990. In constant inflation-adjusted dollars, this was an increase of 35.8 percent.

So tax revenues grow by 28% and spending grows by almost 36%. You're actually going to sit here and present that as an example of fiscal responsibility?

Yes it is important to tell the WHOLE story. Reagan was promised spending cuts he did not get them.

The '82-'83 tax cuts were fiscally responsible and more then paid for themselves, the spending was not. You can't just categorically say Reagan was fiscally irresponsible. That is BS.

boy, aren’t we glad we boycotted away those 2 senate seats in GA? man, we sure showed those lousy rino’s who’s in charge.

Yeah we are now stuck with a $3.5 Trillion dollar budget instead of a $3.4 Trillion dollar budget.

Whooppie

You can bet most Republican Senators only voted "No" because their vote wasn't needed.

Yeah we are now stuck with a $3.5 Trillion dollar budget instead of a $3.4 Trillion dollar budget.

Exactly, I counted 19 Republicans approving the bill, so 2 GA yes votes are meaningless.

Reagan was promised spending cuts he did not get them.

Please stop. That's like saying you were promised a new car at a 50% discount by a car dealership NEXT YEAR if only you will buy one at the sticker price today. Who gives a crap what someone promises you if that person will pay no price for lying to your face? What's on the contract you sign? THAT is the only thing that matters.

There’s an old cliche’, “dog bites man isn’t news but man bites dog, that’s newsworthy.” In congressional legislation, a bill passing on a party line vote isn’t news, but a bipartisan bill passing, that’s news.
