Days ahead of his summit with President Biden in Geneva, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the United States was being hypocritical in its criticism of the way his country handles internal dissent.
During an interview with NBC News, Putin said Russia was no worse than the United States in this regard, and used the government's handling of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot as an example.
He even pointed to the arrests of hundreds of suspects in the U.S. Capitol riot and the death of one rioter as proof that the U.S. also targets its citizens for their political opinions, just as Russia is accused of stifling dissent. (The FBI has arrested people for the violence inflicted on the seat of government in Washington, rather than for their political opinions.)
"We have a saying: 'Don't be mad at the mirror if you are ugly,'" he said. "It has nothing to do with you personally. But if somebody blames us for something, what I say is, why don't you look at yourselves? You will see yourselves in the mirror, not us."
Putin showed flashes of defiance when he was asked whether it was a "coincidence" that several other political rivals had been assassinated in recent years.
"We don't have this kind of habit, of assassinating anybody," Putin said when he was asked whether he ordered Navalny killed. (NBC News)
He then countered by asking whether the U.S. was guilty of assassinating Ashli Babbitt during the Capitol riot.

Putin is a dictator and a tyrant. But remember one thing. He is an Orthodox Christian and he protects his people and his borders. That means he is a few notches above low , vile snakes like Biden, Harris , Pelosi and Schumer.
People criticize Putin for seizing Crimea, but the context is not fully vetted. Obama unleashed millions of Syrian and other Muslim refugees with his Arab Spring Movement. These Arab masses were pointed toward Russia , Georgia and the Crimea but Putin stopped that Muslim refugee exodus into Crimea by seizing it and closing the borders. So the masses alternatively headed for the soft underbelly of Nato’s Europe. That was a pretty shrewd move by Putin, and it was in response to Obama’s underhanded demographic warfare against Russia. Massive Obama fail.
And now Obama has Biden waging the same kind of demographic warfare on America itself over the Southern Border. America is weakened and war is a definite thret form Russia and China. Our LGBTQ military won;t be able to stop a Russian invasion from the Artc nor a Chinese invasion of Hawaii and the West Coast of our country.
America is run by quislings and weaklings who attained office by using Covid to steal our electoral process.
So how much longer will we pretend this is not all true?

I can’t recall any American President being publicly humiliated so thoroughly and frequently, and for such well-founded cause, by a Russian or Soviet leader as Biden has by Putin.
Not even Obama or Carter got this degree of treatment.
