Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died at age 99, the royal family announced Friday.

Philip and the queen were married for more than 70 years, making him the longest-serving spouse of a reigning British monarch. He was the oldest-ever male member of the British royal family.

Philip was born on the Greek island of Corfu on June 10, 1921, to Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenberg.

His original name was Prince Philip of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, or Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark.

Rest in peace.

The “Royals” anointed themselves special status by claiming they were more special to God with unique “blue blood”.....unlike that of the “commoners”.....

This is heretical to God......

They tyrannically ruled and plundered the people of England for a thousand years and they accumulated their wealth on the backs of the “commoners”.....Cruelty and the totalitarian rule was their specialty......

Good riddance to rubbish.....

Sad he didn’t make it to 100. He was an imperfect man not a god. Have to respect that he gave up his career for the woman he loved. I hope Harry is happy that he lost the past few years with his grandfather. Hopefully, Meghan won’t go to the funeral.

Let’s hope he doesn’t get his wish:

Actually, no, or more precisely not yet.

The 1947 creation of the Dukedom of Edinburgh passes to the Prince Wales per the Letters Patent creating it.

When the Prince succeeds to the Throne, the Dukedom will “merge with the Crown” and will be available to be granted to the Earl of Wessex.

The only way this will not happen is if the Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge and Prince George were to all predecease the Queen. In that case, Princess Charlotte would become Queen and Prince Louis would inherit both the Edinburgh and Cambridge titles (among others).

He met Elizabeth before the war. So if he had intentions to marry her, serving actively in the war was a obvious step to win the approval of both Elizabeth and King George VI.

The article pointed out some of the inaccuracies in “The Crown,” but the episode depicting Philip’s youth and his sister’s airplane crash were harrowing.

or King Charles might decide to deny the title to his brother, or King William could deny his uncle when his father predeceases the Queen.

Wow, you have an appalling lack of knowledge about history...

While there have been English, Scottish, and British monarchs that would be considered tyrants. They have always had to deal with some form of Parliament, including a Civil War that led to the Execution of Charles I.

Not to mention the Glorious Revolution that deposed James II & VII...

I think there’s a bit of bookends-symmetry to the fact that Prince Philip’s mother Princess Alice was born in Windsor Castle, and Prince Philip died there.

No, depriving a title takes an Act of Parliament.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titles_Deprivation_Act_1917

Once granted the title is governed by the Letters Patent creating it.

Many people think he may have mishandled his relationship with Charles, such as overencouraging the marriage with Diana for dynastic reasons while Charles’ heart was not in it.

I misread your comment.

In theory as King the Prince of Wales could choose to not grant the title. But I’m pretty sure they got his approval for the plan, since he would be the one granting it.

It is his brother after all.
