I nearly posted that one. So beautiful.

My first thought as well. At the time I had to look up what "the Mersey" is. This was in the Beatles' early days, and this group may have been imitators, but as it turns out, their sound was more mellow. As you may already know, "The Mersey" is the River Mersey that flows across the industrial cities in the north of England, with its mouth at the ports of Liverpool.

Passed through there on my way from London to Scotland back in the late 60s. The countryside areas are very beautiful. Stayed over in Sheffield, where there was the Sheffield Silver plating company; and sampled the lovely local fish'n'chips. The people couldn't have been nicer. Long ago and far away.

After he went solo, Cliff Richard became the third-top-selling artist in UK Singles Chart history, behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley. He only had a couple of hits on our side of the pond, “Devil Woman” (1976) and “We Don’t Talk Anymore” (1979). Here’s one I like;

I never got to England but my sister and I were huge Beatle fans and I was about 13 when that song came out.

If I had to listen to only one singer/band for the rest of my life it would have to be Duran Duran. I also would have to include Arcadia’s So Red the Rose album when they split up briefly.

I love their more well known songs but also the ones that didn’t get the air play they deserved.

Night Boat
New Moon on Monday
Do You Believe in Shame?
Lonely in Your Nightmare
I don’t Want Your Love
Come Undone
Ordinary World
All She Wants Is
My Own Way
Serious
Perfect Day
Falling Down
Pressure Off

Arcadia

I love all of the videos for these.

Election Day
Goodbye is Forever
The Flame (my favorite Arcadia video)
The Promise

Wow, age creeps up! Still a very pleasant man and could still sing the high notes.

Horrified at his mention of the Hillsborough disaster—I remember the pix in the American press. Just tragic. Football is such a big thing in that area of Britain, and people lost control.

((Hugs!))

I also like those songs by Englebert & Tom Jones, because I think they give really good, soulful versions of some great, old, sad, bluesy, country songs.   (Not because I'm just for hearing "nice old lady music".   I'm not a woman, like yourself, but I think Engelbert and Tom Jones both sing great, soulful versions of some of these sad, bluesy, country songs.)      :-)

(Besides, Engelbert Humperdinck has a great name, doesn't he?)      :-)

Here are some older versions of those same songs, done earlier, by various country singers, who also do good, bluesy, country versions I like too.   (See how you like these versions yourself.)

"Am I That Easy To Forget" - Carl Belew

"Green, Green Grass Of Home" - Johnny Darrell

"Please Release Me" - Jerry Lee Lewis

"There Goes My Everything" - Jack Greene

(They're not British like Humperdinck & Jones, but they do good versions of these country songs, don't they?)

Hey, Fiji Hill, that's a great version too!   (I listened to it, and one thing I like about that, is between the verses, where it sounds to me like they are doing a "guitar yodel", that sounds really great, sort of like "...yodel-leedle-yodel-lady-yodel-lady-yodel-leedle-lady..." on the guitar.      :-)

(When I was listening to your link, I saw another one out there on youtube.   See what you think of this version, done by some guys who are a tad "more mature", in this video.)

"House of the Rising Sun" - Eric Burdon & The Animals.)
