According to local talking heads 45% of area customers are without electric power because of insufficient generating capacity. Until about 30 years ago every electric customer had one electricity supplier to deal with. The supplier generated, distributed and sold electricity. If a power source was deemed unreliable then service providers would develop generation from reliable sources. Governor George W. Bush determined this method was unfair. He separated generation, distribution and billing entities.
Fast forward to today. A massive portion of Texas electric customers have bought into the scam of wind turbine generation. Add that, with the stroke of a pen, Joe Biden just precluded fixing this problem by canceling the Alaska gas pipeline. It could have fed actual reliable natural gas generators.
Obviously my power hasn’t been affected yet. Still though, I think the people without power right now should be the customers who signed up to buy power from wind generators.
They work really well on sunny days when the air is dry and the temperature is about 72. You can have plenty of electricity then. Other times ... not so much.
They’ll just double down on more wind turbines.
Do they already have a heater control system in each unit? Would it cope if so? If not - then this is completely dumb, we have a weak link for abundant power - just because it got cold.
What the hell is Texas doing with this farce of a power supply?
This is sorta unrelated but has to do with natural gas prices. Something called spot pricing index? Anyway, it was on a video link produced this morning and I believe he was quoting some type of natural gas futures index, warning of astronomical increases on the horizon. I attempted to verify this but had no luck. Anybody hear anything related?
I’m in Harris County, just north of Houston. I, and 45% of Centerpoint users, are without power. I did not choose a wind plan. Centerpoint did not harden its phone or computer systems before the storm, so customers cannot contact them and they haven’t sent out any network wide text messages. I have not heard one bit of info from Centerpoint to the media all day. I have been without power since 2am and no contact from the company that supplies my power.
There used to be a bumper sticker about environmentalists freezing to death in the dark.
I was really saddened to see all of those wind turbines along I-40 in western OK and the TX panhandle.
Those “conservative” areas sucked into the wind turbine crap.
Quick!
Submit a patent application for heated wind turbines!
Pedotus has proclaimed that this
proves GLOBAL WARMING is coming
in 9 years, AND the US must invest
more on wind turbines NOW.
I’ll keep my Generac thank you.
For the money those big ones cost, especially for government, you’d think they could have put heaters in them.
I live in the DFW area and rolling blackouts began at 2 am and continued to 7 am. Unfortunately at that point the rolling blackout became a permanent blackout.
10 hours later I got through to Oncor to report our outage. Its down to about 50 degrees inside the house. Oncor unable to give me an update on my outage.
A mile or so down the road the power is on, but nothing in my neighborhood.
Fast food joints have lines backed out into the main road so it was peanut butter and jelly for dinner tonight.
And the kicker for all of this is there was a coal powered plant less than 10 miles from my house that was shut down due to being dirty power. Sure would be nice to have it online now.
With rolling black outs in Texas you have to expect lots of people to die from exposure tonight. Who gets held responsible? This isn’t an accident, an oversight or miscalculation. The people who make these decisions aren’t stupid. They know precisely the risks and they don’t care.
Last year, Texas generated 18 percent of its energy from wind and solar — with wind providing the vast majority of total renewable generation.

Mr. Pollak, sitting here in a dark and cold house in Central Texas with the temp 6 degrees last night; AND, TONIGHT with the temp 11 degrees I do not share your enthusiasm about the importance of broken down old windmills that pollute the landscape in what was once a beautiful West Texas.
Moreover, billions will have to be funded by the taxpayer to clean these obsolescent, inefficient, Model T, wet dreams of the LIBERALs up on top of the tax credits that made the damn things feasible to begin with. At least give credit where credit is due for this financial debacle starting with Google and T Boone Pickens. Boone just wanted to make some more money. Google needed to Feel Good.
Isn’t there something you can write about going on in your home country South Africa?
Can’t be good for the things, either. Likely decrease their working life.
