Half of Texas Wind Turbines Freeze, Hurting Electricity Output
Breitbart ^ | 15 Feb 2021

Posted on 02/15/2021 4:45:26 PM PST by nagant

Nearly half of the wind turbines in the state of Texas froze in recent winter weather, hurting state power supplies, according to state authorities.

The Austin American-Statesman reported Sunday: ..... The outlet noted that the loss of power was largely offset by the fact that the remaining turbines were spinning quickly because of strong winter storm winds.

Millions of electricity customers across Texas suffered blackouts, partly due to the problems with the turbines, as the Washington Post reported: ..... The problems in Texas echo difficulties with renewable energy that California experienced during a heat wave in September, when there were rolling blackouts because there was no wind, while overcast skies meant there was little solar energy.

Wind supplies 23% of the energy in Texas and has been growing rapidly in the state. Texas is also the leading producer of wind energy in the nation.

How involved was T Boone in bringing wind to the great state of Texas?

There are turbines all over Iowa, Illinois, and the upper Midwest and they don’t freeze up like this, so evidently there are design differences.

For the money those big ones cost, especially for government, you’d think they could have put heaters in them.

Did you even read what you posted?

Boone's plan went forward anyway so he did this “sanctimonious” middle-man stance that attempted to placate both sides when the damage was already done AND EXPANDED.

I live in the DFW area and rolling blackouts began at 2 am and continued to 7 am. Unfortunately at that point the rolling blackout became a permanent blackout.

10 hours later I got through to Oncor to report our outage. Its down to about 50 degrees inside the house. Oncor unable to give me an update on my outage.

A mile or so down the road the power is on, but nothing in my neighborhood.

Fast food joints have lines backed out into the main road so it was peanut butter and jelly for dinner tonight.

Is there anything more of a blight on the land? Ugly, ugly waste of land. We’ve flown miles and miles across this great country and it’s disgusting to see all these windmills (most aren’t even turning ).

“A little dated...”

No, a lot dated. This is a little dated:

Texas produces the most wind power of any U.S. state.[1][3] According to ERCOT (Energy Reliability Council of Texas), wind power accounted for at least 15.7% of the electricity generated in Texas during 2017, as wind was 17.4% of electricity generated in ERCOT, which manages 90% of Texas’s power.[4][5]

Fly over west Texas or north Texas and look down. You can’t miss them.

And the kicker for all of this is there was a coal powered plant less than 10 miles from my house that was shut down due to being dirty power. Sure would be nice to have it online now.

Why isn’t Horseface Kerry and his unemployed pipeline workers down in Texas with heaters melting that ice off the Wind Turbines?

The gear boxes are heated by power from the grid and they generally punp the oil with grid power although the pump can use a battery. No heater, then no lubrication.

With rolling black outs in Texas you have to expect lots of people to die from exposure tonight. Who gets held responsible? This isn’t an accident, an oversight or miscalculation. The people who make these decisions aren’t stupid. They know precisely the risks and they don’t care.
