Several Super Bowl Advertisers Bow Out over Fear of Offending Viewers
Breitbart ^ | 24 Jan 2021 | Warner Todd Huston

A growing number of big-name advertisers, including Coke and Hyundai, are skipping the Super Bowl this year for fear of not striking the right tone amid America’s contentious political landscape.

Several companies have decided not to buy Super Bowl time, some for the first time in over a decade.

The reason? According to the New York Post, the talk from insiders is that members of multiple boardrooms are finally coming to realize that they’re going to infuriate half the country no matter what they do.

In recent years, advertisers were thrilled to push the Black Lives Matter and Antifa ideologies or to push transgenderism and the #MeToo movement. But this year, not so much.

“Every client conversation I’ve had these days is about who is going to be offended by this ad,” Rob Schwartz, chief executive officer of ad agency TBWA\Chiat\Day, told the Post. “There’s a lot of discussion about risk mitigation. What that tends to do is that it makes things very bland and not effective, or it forces you to look at universal topics like hope or humor.

“The country is so divided and split right down the middle that I don’t think that there’s a commercial that will appease both sides,” added Bill Oberlander, co-founder and executive creative of ad agency Oberlander.

The result has been that the Super Bowl will not sell out of its ad spots this year, the paper reported. And some of the companies opting out have been with the NFL’s biggest game for over a decade.

Coca-Cola is out this year, the report said. So is Hyundai, Olay, Avocados From Mexico, Little Caesars, and Ford Motors. Most of these companies have had a Super Bowl ad every year since 2010.

AND how do you know it’s a “worm”? Maybe it “self-identifies” as a “non-binary” green elephant. The lgbtqeieio crowd will be up in arms over this.

The NFL have earned the right to be bankrupted.

Nobody to blame but themselves.

The Pussyhat Brigade considers toxic masculinity as anything more testicular than the Vienna Boys’ Choir. I’m amazed that the feral dykes on the far Left haven’t started advocating for castration at birth yet.

Viewers expect top quality ads during the Super Bowl. Can these geniuses really not think about a theme with no political overtones? The Baby Clysdale or “Can’t touch this” Cheetos ads suggest themselves as examples

It shows the lack of creativity in the writers if they can’t come up with a commercial to simply sell their product.

After Ravens RB Ray Rice punched his wife in the face on video the NFL started a publicity campaign to virtue signal that they were the most virtuous of all. That year the commercials for the Super Bowl were all boring virtue-paloozas and public service annoucements, boring as hell and too many of them to be a coincidence. To me it was clear: the NFL had sent word that the old fashioned fun beer commercials about parties with pretty girls would NOT be tolerated. Commercials targeted at men wound NOT be tolerated. Rules, rules, rules. And it's been that way ever since.

So to me I think the NFL has put rules out there as to what was acceptable and advertisers are just done with it. Ratings are way down and the NFL is telling them to adertise BLM instead of their product. They are saying "and you want me to pay for that privilege? Nah, I'll sit it out."

I’m sure they’ll attract all their lost fans back by replacing “women’s sports” with “dudes who say they’re women’s sports.” That’ll work.

Born and raised in KC. Until a few years ago (when the kneeling started), I was a big Chiefs fan. Was also a big fan of tom brady(I think I heard somewhere that he went there - not that I give a crap) Now? I really don’t care squat about it. To hades with all of them!

Starting to see “the Light”?

Instead of not advertising, how about STICKING TO THE PRODUCT, instead of pushing an agenda either by overt support or subtle consumer promotion (f ags, interracial, etc)?

How about everyone stop being so self-conscious?

The commercials during the AFC championship game were awful. These big companies are wasting their money on bad advertising agencies.

Actually, if the socialists were really interested in "unity", I can imagine many commercials that would be palatable.

Not that it would cause me to watch NFL. I'm gone.

The Post added that the experts looking at the plans insiders are reporting for their Super Bowl ads show that most of these companies are playing it safe and turning away from the hardcore, left-wing ideologies. This year’s ads will mostly be heartwarmers and humorous ads instead of political jeremiads.

So, 'playing it safe' means NOT giving the finger to half the American people? That's heartwarming... guess some of these companies have realized it wouldn't take much more for most of us to walk away... forever.

They WANT to push the Antifa, woke, urban, affluent, pod-eater Biden-voting messaging, but they're AFRAID we will boycott them, shun them, or mock them relentlessly with memes etc.

And equally afraid the Left will punish them if they don’t push their messaging. Coupling that no-win situation with the undeniable loss in interest in the Kaepernick NFL and the questionable value of the high-priced ads, they are simply choosing to avoid the whole thing.

I'm a huge Zappa fan. I bought a great bootleg years ago...

Of course, the title is a play on the PMRC hearings and "1984" amd Zappa's old band The Mothers of Invention.

Over the years, as the Nanny State grew to become the dominant element of Leviathan, I adopted the Big Mother phrase vs Big Brother.

I caught Roger Waters' Wall show about a decade ago, and he flashed this on the Wall during the truly evil parent-love song "Mother":

That settled it for me. When/if an evil 1984-like state rules, it won't be with "toxic masculinity" but with "brutal feminism."

That's a long way to reply, no, it wasn't a typo but thanks for the alert. /rant
