Rumor has it: a run on Walmart (vanity)
An insider, private communication

A usually reliable source informs me that the Walmarts in the area are doing land office business. Something like 50% more than normal, with one store having over double expected.
I don't know of any specific news that would drive this, perhaps the smelly Walmart shoppers are prepping for a long Dark Winter?

I have a very beautiful 25-yo granddaughter who is a hair stylist. She has a lot of military men for customers (wonder why that is) and they’ve been telling her the last few days to expect widespread violence and power outages from the left on inauguration day. I called a couple of my buddies from the power plant I used to work for, and they said over the last few years, they’ve really been upgrading protection to their facilities nationwide.
So who knows?

This is like reruns of last year.
Many saw the panic in China and started prepping themselves.
I can see it happening again, only with a whole lot more people being aware of it and doing the prepping.

It’s Saturday. All stores are busy on Saturday since most people who WORK get paid on Friday.

That’s interesting because I never noticed your W-M to be that short stocked on stuff when I’ve shopped there.
I’m surprised that they aren’t better stocked considering how little competition they have.
OTOH, considering that there’s almost nothing nearby for at least an hour in any direction, that could explain it.

My Florida Publix chain has been price-gouging big-time from the git-go. So I shop at WalMart and SAVE big-time (20% up to 50%) on just about every product I need.
Empty shelves are in all the stores, so price is my factor for where I do my shopping.

land-office business
A thriving, expanding, or very profitable concern or volume of trade. For example, After the storm they did a land-office business in snow shovels and rock salt. This term, dating from the 1830s, alludes to the throng of applicants to government land offices through which Western lands were sold. It has been used for other booming business since the mid-1800s.
