WSB radio just announced Trump will not participate in the virtual debate next week. That's all I have so far.

Edited to add:

Pres Trump: "I'm not going to waste my time on a virtual debate." Fox Business interview with Maria Bartiromo

Right. He gets nothing out of not debating. It would make Biden appear stronger than he is.

"It is not a negotiation unless Trump makes a counter-offer."

Not necessarily. I've been in many negotiations where a party threatens to walk out and a revised offer is made by the other party.

Both Biden and the debate committee need this debate.

Biden doesn’t need another debate. He made it through one without passing out and that is all he needed. I doubt there will be another debate.

This is not a first year law school contracts scenario, this is a question about what is in the best interests of the Trump campaign and that means whether the decision most likely advances his election.

So far I see no cogent reason for him to relinquish the opportunity to try to improve himself in a situation in which he is losing at the polls as far as we know. He further risks looking petulant. This comes in the wake of refusing to bargain anymore with Nancy Pelosi over Corona virus subsidies. He runs the risk of looking too much like Caesar in a media environment that longs for the Ides of March.

Maria and Lou Dobbs are the two biggest Trump supporters in the media. And the smartest. Neither one lets any guest lie in their show or disparage this great president.

The moderator is a leftist and once again Trump would be battle against two. Now if the debate is going to be virtual they are taking away a strength of PDJT. Despite having the China Flu, PDJT is strong, vigorous and imposing. Biden is frail and weak. To be very blunt, he’s been a pussy all of his life. A virtual debate partly neutralizes PDJT’s strengths and Biden’s weaknesses.

Agree. This upcoming (maybe not) debate is a 90 minute “The Apprentice” boardroom fight. This is Trump’s strength. No way Dementia Joe can handle being on his feet, moving around, interacting with real people for that long without falling apart.

Remember it was in the town hall format debate where Trump stuck the shiv into PIAPS with the “you’d be in jail” retort. She didn’t recover from that.

"That is an incredibly good book for obtaining an insight into who Trump is as a person, and how he operates as a businessman. There’s a whole chapter on how he negotiates."

Yes, the techniques are SOP for an experienced entrepreneur.

Another trait is to trust a stranger until they prove they are untrustworthy. If they prove untrustworthy they are, at best, a non-person and, at worst, an enemy.

When Trump moved from the business world to Washington he was astounded at the number of untrustworthy people he has had to deal with.

Just like this “debate committee” (whose members are ALL leftists, btw) changed the rules after the first debate, to prevent interruptions.

I don’t blame POTUS for calling them out. You don’t change the rules in the middle of the game.

Yep, debate commission has tried to pull a bait and switch at the last minute regarding debate format. Trumps not buying it and he shouldn’t. IMO the debate commission will fold. They want the ratings. They want Biden to win, they want Trump to look like he is backing out, but they are addicted to their ratings and the associated money. I think they will back down, then its in Bidens court to debate or not.

Internal polling is showing him doing better. They just cancelled ads in Ohio and Iowa, for instance.

He would be willing to do a face-to-face debate and was expecting to, then the commission pulled this. Virtual allows answers on screens the camera won’t see. It’s just like at home school exams instead of at school, where teachers act as proctors.

This is also how he negotiates through positioning. Go further than the others would like and maybe get what you want or compromise someplace closer to the middle. If he accepts what’s been offered, only he made all the concessions.

It’s pretty straight-forward reasoning.

You could be right. I think there will be a live one. We'll see.

I tend to agree with you. And why is it they always pick these libtard lamestream news moderators? What I had seen in 2016 and now this past month is ridiculous. They are far from unbiased.

Goofball Howard Kurtz on Fox saying last night’s debate was a draw. He is an idiot.

Also, unlike last time, RCP is averaging only tainted polls from WaPo and the like. Trafalgar and a few others that accurately predicted Trump’s lead last election are not in it.

Don’t let yourself be led by inherently bad data sources.

Talk about wanting to ‘phone it in’. A virtual debate, really? With the MSM habit of editing every sound bite or video clip already it would end up looking like a bad game show format. If they want it phoned in, the President can pick up his phone and pen and give the Biden camp a rousing ‘F U’ with a huge rally that night instead.

What "opportunity" is there with a virtual debate? Dear Lord, the entire country is sick to death of remotes and Zoom sessions. Furthermore, it legitimizes Biden's cowardly basement-dwelling campaign.

It sounds as though there was no negotiation about any terms whatsoever, just an edict from the Commission.

No more debates with never Trumper “moderators” and questions pre delivered to Slow Joe.< Period./p>

Freepers detected that at one point in last night's debate, Harris said that a comment provided a segue into the next topic. How did she know that without having been tipped off in advance to the topics?

Trafalgar poll shows some positive movement for the Republican candidate for Senator in Michigan, suggesting the state is closing for Trump.

Trafalgar also has some bright numbers in a couple of other battleground states.

I agree with the assessment about Ohio and Iowa, he would never pull out of the states if he perceived any danger.

I have already suggested that he might be influenced by internal polling showing a surge for himself in the polls. Until we know more, however, I think we have to go on the assumption that he is fighting a deficit all as outlined By Real Clear Politics.
