...Trump played into the Democrat talking points that Trump is not able to govern

The last 4 years debunk that notion more than Trump leant it legs tonight. The question for each voter is if they like his overall governance more than the alternative.

It doesn’t matter what “WE” think,,,
What matters is what the Undecided Voters think.
And what I’m seeing on FB and Twitter neither debater made a very good impression,
I will crawl across burning coals to vote for Trump. Nothing I heard tonight could change my mind.

Im not going to bother to read this whole thread so Im sorry if Im repeating someone else.

Trump crushed Biden at every angle but one, performing for the camera. Its important to squishy middles that “Trump is speaking to me!” TO me, not about me. Trump needs to break the fourth wall. He includes “me” in the conversation when he looks at and talks directly to “me”. As small as it seems, as stupid as it seems, that kind of thing is important to people that dont live and breathe politics like we do.

If you are unhappy with the debate, send President Trump’s campaign a check for whatever you can.

Today our nation is threatened by the possible election of a Democrat. We were in the same situation yesterday.

Trump's objective was to turn the polls around, I believe he failed to do that tonight.

I'll just leave this one here.

If Trump *were* ahead in the polls, the Dems wouldn't be pulling out every possible stop on every type of voter fraud ever seen.

You are utterly and irretrievably wrong.

“Did Trump do well? Did Biden do well?”

No. President Trump failed to give concise, more detailed answers to the accusations against him (questions paired with accusations). Biden simply told the same, old lies, but he appealed to low information voters with those lies. I suspect that the same voters have been absorbing those lies from their ever-running televisions all along.

So it up to us. We need to information our neighbors with mentions of important freedoms and short comments about the economy. Remember, cause and effect, cause and effect. Compose your comments at home, then say them in local social situations. Avoid discussing the candidates or political parties with anyone who might be a Democrat. Wear your party preferences in other ways with T-shirts, hats, bumper stickers, decals, signs and more.

exactly-Trump campaign and FRs who keep setting the bar so low for Biden play right into Dems hands. Trump has to work on more short lines like I did more in 47 months etc

or i wish he said on taxes, i was rich before politics, you and your family got rich because of politics

keep in minds CBS snap polls in 2016 said Trump lost 53-18. 61-21 etc, tonight best CBS best shot says Trump lost 48-41 and factor that in.

Trump knows ant moderator will be on Biden’s side. Work on two sentence answers on positives

With respect, sir:

I don't like to say this, I'm distressed to have to say this, but candor requires me to say that Trump entered the debate with the overwhelming advantage of incumbency As President of the United States Of America and left the debate a brawler who was behind in the Real Clear Average of polls. Biden entered the debate as a demented septuagenarian ahead in the polls and left the debate a viable candidate for president of the United States in possession of his faculties ahead in the Real Clear average of polls.

Trump's objective was to turn the polls around, I believe he failed to do that tonight. Biden's objective was to appear presidential rather than demented and to safeguard his lead in the polls, I believe he did that.

I think you are falling victim to two phenomenon:

  1. I was interested when I heard that folk on DU were very upset with Biden's performance. Then it occurred to me... OF COURSE! We, on either side, want OUR guy to perform perfectly. We tend to notice our side's mistakes much more and not the other side's. We end up being hyper-critical of our guy. DU: "Biden did THIS wrong and should have done THIS", and FR: "Trump did THIS wrong and should have done THIS"

  2. ...and per the polls, I think you may have forgotten the professional polling cycle. Phase 1 is to exaggerate the left's numbers, to discourage the right. Phase 2 is to boost the right's numbers, to motivate the left. Then Phase 3 is to take actual polls so they can claim they were right this cycle.

As to my take on the whole debate: I will copy one freeper who I agreed with, and add my own text to it.

Biden exceeded expectations and did well. Some actually said Biden wouldn’t even show up. Biden spoke a lot of lies but he said them smoother than I expected. I doubt he is called out on any of them. Trump did very well and in certain segments he definitely rocked. But Trump interrupted too much. No KO. Opportunity missed.

I think Trump did very well on Law and Order, on Reopening, and on the Economy. I think those are the really important issues right now. People are tired of the virus. They want to move back toward a normal life. Trump did do a good job of framing that.

Biden did a good job looking into the camera and speaking directly to the people. He also had emotional tones in his voice at times, and that connects very well with suburban moms. I think Biden gets a big boost with the suburban mom crowd from this.

I think Trump wasted a lot of time with the Hunter Biden stuff. People don't care. Biden was smart not to hammer the Trump tax stuff too much. Again, people don't care.

On the whole, I'd say it's a wash. We cannot trust the media polls at all, and with the planned fraud, I suspect we cannot trust the poll that will occur the entire month of November, instead of November third, when it should have been decided.

[I assume you mean "if Trump were not ahead…"]

Evidently you are uninformed of the Democrat fraud putting John F. Kennedy in the White House along with Lyndon Johnson by buying Cook County Illinois and the border precincts in Texas.

The Democrats don't need polling to cheat they have been doing it all my lifetime and before. The fact that they cheat has no probative value in determining the state of the polls-whatever that state might be.

I agree. I wish Trump had interrupted a bit less, but I think Biden clearly lost on substance.

Thing is, Trump simply doesn’t suffer fools gladly and it was never more apparent than tonight. It’s just not in his genes to back down and not fight back -— and that’s what makes him the best president in my lifetime!

What Trump intended to do was get Biden pinned down on certain positions that would fracture his weak coalition.

Trump mentioned a number of locations with active, open cheating (whether disposal of ballots, selling of ballots, or whatever). He didn't have time to give the details.

I knew all about Nixon standing down rather than challenging the election. One of the greatest disasters ever to befall the US.

But the polls do not match the facts on the ground (Biden signs vs. Trump signs; spontaneous Trump caravans and flotillas; the WalkAway movement and similar) and even LBGT for Trump over Biden.

I generally agree with your take, especially in many of the particulars. I disagree with your conclusion in that I think Trump did not achieve what should have been his goal in the debate but Biden clearly did with the result being that Trump lost a chance that he really had to win and, in the process, sacrificed the value of incumbency.

As to the need for Trump to prevail because of the condition of the polls, I will be the first to say that the polls are unreliable, that at best they can be used to perhaps identify a trend. I turn on the vulnerability of Trump in the electoral College, and the fact that the real clear politics average of polls, which is really all we have to work with now, is running against Trump in a race in which he is vulnerable.

Hence the need to come out a clear winner.

Can’t wait for Trump’s rallies in the next few days. I think they’ll be record viewers who will want to hear his take on the debate.
