Print this article Former CIA Director John Brennan appears to have dodged prosecution in U.S. Attorney John Durham's criminal inquiry into the Russia investigation.
After NBC News reported Thursday that Brennan agreed to do an interview with Durham, signaling that his investigation is nearing its end, a lawyer familiar with the situation told NPR that the Obama-era CIA director has been told he is not a target of prosecutors. Instead, this source said, the interview will mainly consist of technical questions.
The news is sure to disappoint some of President Trump's most ardent supporters who believe Brennan and other top officials in the Obama administration sought to sabotage Trump's candidacy in 2016 and later his presidency.
Still, while Brennan may escape an indictment, he may yet be harshly criticized in a report. Attorney General William Barr said he expects "developments" from Durham's inquiry by the end of the summer.
Its hard to prove criminal intent at their level, and unless theres a smoking gun, like an email or text, theyll probably get off with a damning report about their activities," former Assistant FBI Director Chris Swecker, who claims to know Durham personally, told RealClearInvestigations in reference to Brennan and other top intelligence community and law enforcement officials from the Obama administration.
Durham has reportedly scrutinized Brennan's emails, call logs, and other records from the CIA as his team looked into the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian election interference, whether there was an effort to hide information from other agencies, British ex-spy Christopher Steeles flawed anti-Trump dossier, and other issues.
Democrats, some Justice Department veterans, and legal experts have raised concerns about the public release of Durham's findings or indictments less than 90 days from the election. Under questioning last week by Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a Florida Democrat, Barr refused to commit under oath to not releasing a report before the November contest and pledged it would not "disrupt" the election.
Timing is also a mounting concern for the president's allies who fear the federal prosecutor's work will get buried should former Vice President Joe Biden defeat Trump.
Brennan, who has traded barbs with Trump over the past couple years, found out he had been blocked from accessing his classified notes and records while working on his forthcoming memoir.
Fake news?
I suspect a lot of folks will escape prosecution.
You can only go with what is provable, unfortunately.
I has hoping for a more ignominious end for that surly, constipated-looking old bastard.
It sounds to me that he has agreed to rollover.
After NBC News reported Thursday that Brennan agreed to do an interview with Durham, signaling that his investigation is nearing its end, a lawyer familiar with the situation told NPR that the Obama-era CIA director has been told he is not a target of prosecutorsHas the familiar stench of fake news, but given how all the commies have been walking of late, people would be right to fear the worst.
scot-free /ˌskätˈfrē/ adverb adverb: scot-free without suffering any punishment or injury.
Then this is another nothing burger waste of time and tax payer money.
Sounds about right from a fake government.
You expected something else???
Yes, I agree. Feels like fake news.
“...I suspect a lot of folks will escape prosecution....”
They already have. NOT ONE indictment. Out of all the established guilt and evidence.
Crime does pay in Washington, DC.
Fake news and speculation.I canceled my subscription to this rag as it is no better than the Atlantic or The Hill. WE is often wrong and it looks to be that there is no leaking of anything nor should there be.
It’s speculation but the source is NPR and a lawyer for Brennan is the providing the response without attribution. Washington Examiner is reporting it, that’s all.
Can the Durham investigation take a former CIA Director out?
We will need to wait until the Durham action pending (and where it leads).
Of course this “article” is all true. Riiiiight. The Washington Examiner. Sure.
Brennan managed the FISA surveill. A criminal act involving Five Eyes foreign surveill of US citizens.... boatloads of them (not just Trump). The obamaumao surveillance state bragged about by Maxine Waters.
No way Brennan is not paying for this. Incidentally, his security clearance was removed by the President, in May of 2019. He still ran his flapper on MSNBC and CNN-— and everyone who were tasked watched his every move.
Examiner needs its own self-exam. “sources” indeed. Planted fake leaks. Paid to leak, as a misdirect.
No surprise, since the GOP are a bunch of cowards.
.... Cowards? Yes, and then there are some who are traitors to We the People. Death to traitors.
