President Donald Trump is cancelling the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville, he announced Thursday during a White House briefing.

It’s not just the Jackass of Jacksonville...lots of states (mostly with Donk Governors) have now imposed 14 day quarantines for folks coming FROM Florida.
With an in-person convention in Florida that would be asking a lot of delegates to give up three weeks of work: One for the event plus two for the quarantine.
Simple reason is that he is staring at the polls showing a wipeout, and needs to change his approach. The current approach is losing, and he hates losing.

I’m female and live in a blue area in a blue state. I think Trump is doing fine in his attempt to try to pick off a few white women. This is the way to do it—he needs to act respectful of the virus instead of bored by it. They are scared of it and want to talk about it all the time. And they want a “mourner in chief.” And it is a vicious, nasty virus. They want a president who cares. He DOES have the rest of our votes in the bag.
GOP people are FAR BRAVER and more nonchalant about this virus than Dems. It’s a striking difference. And now my kids can’t go to even private school because of all the Karens.
Biden said a few days ago: “This is the school reopening plan.” It was all BS, but Trump needs to present a school reopening plan too. That’s what women want to hear about. He did today, for the first time, a bit—but it will be overshadowed by the convention news in the same presser.
I believe now this is possible. Or it will be some virtual BS and Biden will have the advantage of an unseen teleprompter.
I never thought I'd see this President surrender to a virus. I wonder if he or Melania has simply had enough of all of this and want to move on. I just don't feel Trump's heart is in this fight.
we know and he knows and has stated the polls are always wrong. 4 years ago Clinton should have won. Republicans usually lie to pollsters. Dems are always oversampled.

He should have changed his coronavirus approach long ago. Nixing the convention is what I don’t agree with. I think it’s a panicked reaction that will only hurt the energy level on our side. But it is what it is.
The margins we see are beyond “Republican lying” and “Democrat oversampling”. It is a comprehensive rout, with Trump staring at less than 200 EVs.
I am just amazed at the number of freepers of little faith.

The GOP convention gets about no media coverage these days anyway. Not sure why you think it does.
Make the convention online-only and stream it to interested parties. Problem solved. I don’t know why the GOP even bothers having a physical convention anyway - other than to have a huge party at members’ expense.
