A statue of President Theodore Roosevelt in front of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City will be removed, a statement from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's office said Sunday.
Following the museum's request to remove the statue, which features the nation's 26th President on a horse with a Native American man standing on one side and an African man standing on the other, the mayor's office announced the approval.
The announcement comes as several state's grapple with how to handle removals of confederate monuments and other controversial statues.
"The American Museum of Natural History has asked to remove the Theodore Roosevelt statue because it explicitly depicts Black and Indigenous people as subjugated and racially inferior," de Blasio's office said in a statement to CNN. "The city supports the museum's request. It is the right decision and the right time to remove this problematic statue."
While it was meant to celebrate Roosevelt as a "devoted naturalist and author of works on natural history," the statue also "communicates a racial hierarchy that the museum and members of the public have long found disturbing," a press release on the museum's website said.

It sounds thoughtful when it is in reality the opposite. This is true of much of their purely feelings based philosophy.
I assume the heirarchy here is “Teddy Roosevelt”, Black man (on the right hand), and Native American (on the left), and white people don’t exist (not in the statue).
I’m not sure if Teddy sitting on a horse elevates the horse’s status, or lowers it.
I’m surprised nobody has tried to defend any of the statues by calling them “art” rather than history. Although most of them suck, we had a lot of people who were not that good at art making statues for people.
I trust those planning our fall campaign are collecting all images of the contemporary Leftist hate driven hysteria, so we can have the most compelling expose of leftist pathology, ever achieved. The wealth of usable material is really going to be phenomenal.

It sounds like nobody knows the actual history of the statue, and what it was supposed to represent.
Namely, Roosevelt as a hunter, with two hunting guides, one representing America (the Native American), and one representing Africa (The African).
In that context, there is no “heirarchy”, other than the hunter who has hired an expert to help him find his prey.
And so, a statue that depicts a Native American as representative of “America” will be destroyed on the left’s pillar of progress.
And will they leave the horse alone?
I just want to know if I can have it.
I demand the removal of any statue of Woodrow Wilson and that all schools or parks or buildings named after him be renamed. He was a true racist.
Teddy Roosevelt endured a torrent of abuse, particularly from the New York newspapers, when when he was the first president to ever invite a black man to dinner at the White House, his guest being Booker T. Washington. I’m certain it’s the height of folly to expect that the museum’s Board of Trustees would know that, much less the ridiculous mayor of New York City. Until you’ve taken a stroll around Manhattan’s upper west side where the museum is located, you have no idea the depth of fanatical liberalism that rules the petty little lives of its self-absorbed residents.
There’s a great scene in “Annie Hall” where Woody Allen reduces Carol Kane to a cultural stereotype of the typical upper west sider. Watch it if you get the chance as it will explain the typical resident,self-righteous posing of that most liberal of Manhattan enclaves.
