A statue of President Theodore Roosevelt in front of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City will be removed, a statement from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's office said Sunday.
Following the museum's request to remove the statue, which features the nation's 26th President on a horse with a Native American man standing on one side and an African man standing on the other, the mayor's office announced the approval.
The announcement comes as several state's grapple with how to handle removals of confederate monuments and other controversial statues.
"The American Museum of Natural History has asked to remove the Theodore Roosevelt statue because it explicitly depicts Black and Indigenous people as subjugated and racially inferior," de Blasio's office said in a statement to CNN. "The city supports the museum's request. It is the right decision and the right time to remove this problematic statue."
While it was meant to celebrate Roosevelt as a "devoted naturalist and author of works on natural history," the statue also "communicates a racial hierarchy that the museum and members of the public have long found disturbing," a press release on the museum's website said.

I'm sure the fact he was a Republican wasn't a factor. Or a police commissioner. And then there's the attack on hispanics on Kettle/San Juan Hill. With Buffalo Soldiers on his flank I believe, but that counts for nothing.
They need to remove the statue of “The Thinker” as it is offensive to those who cannot think. (Because they are stupid)
Of all the movies made obsolete by political correctness, I wouldn’t have put “Night at the Museum” on that list.
We need a museum of all the statues that were removed or destroyed.

I’ve been expecting this for a long time. During my last visit to NYC and the museum, perhaps 15 years ago, I asked my wife how long it would remain. It took a while to look over the statue. She expressed surprise that it was still there.
I’d just use a sawzall and cut away the Indian and negro, leaving Ted all by himself.

A few blows from a sledge hammer and the Indian and the Negro problem would be permanently solved, keeping the Roosevelt statue, and four ankles and feet along side.

This sickens me. Teddy took a lot of criticism at the time by making peace with defeated Indian chiefs and ensuring that Black Americans could exercise their rights insofar as the nasty Democrat governors in the south and otherwise embedded into government wouldn’t obstruct. IOW, he was exactly the opposite of how the idiot mayor of New York is trying to paint him and the artist of this statue was celebrating that achievement.
