Most of us have been in lockdown for about six weeks. The objective was to flatten the curve and reduce the total number of victims of COVID-19. Well, the curve has been flattened indeed, but how is it six-weeks later there are 25,375 new cases in a single day?
With all the laws and policies implemented to knock out this virus, I expected wed be on the last leg of the downward curve by now. But, instead of a peak and decline, weve had three peaks and shallow valleys between them.
If people are staying at home, practicing social distancing, wearing masks in public, washing their hands and sanitizing everything in sight, how is it that COVID-19 continues to be transmitted from person to person?
A couple possibilities that occurred to me are that: 1) People flouting the laws, or 2) The virus is phenomenally virulent beyond anything ever seen before ( bio-weapon).
I was fully on board with the lockdown orders when they were issued. It was what we needed to do to beat this. However, we are at the point that the cure is becoming worse than the disease. In addition to what this virus has done to people directly, what about the collateral damage, such as long-term damage to our economy? For instance, consider the first two trillion dollar bail-out. Who pays for it? If you are among the approximate one-hundred-million US tax payers, you do. The federal government just signed your name to a $20,000 loan. Dont think so? Do the math.
It would be particularly interesting to hear the stories of COVID-19 cases that youve heard of in the last couple weeks and theories of how they were exposed.
Should we just let this thing take an inevitable course, or should we double-down on lock-down?
Do you realize that every state and the federal government have had quarantine laws on the books since they started passing laws? Those ‘edicts’ were authorized by those old laws. Some specific ones may be unconstitutional (we’ll find out when they’re challenged in a court); others are certainly legal and reasonable.
Reopening would be possible, with a minimum of risk, if people simply acted responsibly, and with due regard for the health of others. If the social distancing and mask-wearing laws are flouted — expect more deaths. Lives are at stake.
In addition to lives — Trump’s reelection chances go down as the death count goes up. Do not be responsible for a Biden government.
Bttt!!! Lol
seasonal flu can infect 30 or 40 million Americans and no-one notices or cares.
more testing means more people infected and there are only 1 million-plus confirmed infections in US.
why the panic? why the shut-downs? it’s ridiculous.
It is deadly for some, but only a small percentage of people who get this virus will die from it. What we are all grappling with now, is some semblance of a cost-benefit review of what we are accomplishing with lockdowns continuing.
So, then...you’re infected? /s
For weeks we were all told NOT to wear a mask, that it was useless.
Then suddenly one day we were ordered to wear them unless we wanted to kill people.
That tells me nothing more than the ‘experts’ are wrong half of the time.
Santa Clara County puts that information out.
I’ve been following for awhile. We had 170 just a few days ago. Now, it’s down to 130.

Glad that you asked that question Barnacle. As a non-medical person, this is what I think is going on.
Flattening the curve was a milestone in the fight against the spread of SARS-CoV-2, not the finish line. As you have indicated, flattening the curve was intended to lower the maximum number of people who needed medical services at the same time so that limited capacity medical services wouldnt have to refuse anybody.
Here is an excellent simple animated graph that shows what I think you meant.
Note that the area under the graph represents the total number of victims that get infected over time, that number basically constant if I remember correctly, even though the graph gets flatter and flatter.
H O W E V E R
As you can see from the graph, the cost of flattening the curve to insure medical services means that the virus will take longer to go away. This is because contagious people are still running around, spreading the virus, which is why social distancing mandates are still in effect.
The good news is that as long as people continue to respect social distancing mandates, fewer and fewer people should be getting infected until nobodys contagious anymore and the virus disappears.
Also, I hope that spring / summer heat makes SARS-CoV-2 go away like it makes the flu disappear.
As I have mentioned Im non-medical. But consider taking vitamin D3.
Corrections, insights welcome.
Send "Orange Man Bad" federal and state government Democrats and RINOs home in November!
Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress and state government leaders that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping SARS-CoV-2 will effectively give fast-working Trump a third term in office imo.
Stay in your homes and cower, shelter in place, you still have to have contact with the delivery guy that contacted 100s of others, you may as well curl up and die.
I think the common-sense approach is:
1. Below age 60 or 65 with no health problems — let ‘er rip!
2. Over age 60 or 65 and beset with high BP, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, etc., try to continue staying at home or limiting your exposure to groups of people. But it is your option and purely voluntary.
Actually as a result, you will have no immunity.
This is a deadly, deadly disease.
No, it's very contagious, but not all that deadly to healthy people.
Even to most unhealthy people its not a killer.
Brazen idiots. Cruisin’ for a bruisin’ idiots.
The flattening of the curve has saved many thousands of lives so far. Perhaps, that will have been only a brief period of grace for many — but, every moment alive beats being dead.
The flattening has bought precious time for measures that will save hundreds of thousands of lives. It’s bought time to: understand the virus better; develop and test some promising therapy drugs; learn how to treat hospitalized patients; manufacture tens of thousands of ventilators; develop new testing equipment and test hundreds of thousands of people; and, develop and begin testing on several vaccines.
I keep thinking all these posts are just posts.
In northern Alabama where I live, very few people are wearing masks or gloves and are crowding into places like Lowes and Walmart. Meanwhile, Alabama, and other states like Tennessee, and Virginia are showing increasing numbers of infections with no flattening in the curves like the the U.S. and other states.
Also, I am noticing several extreme hot-spots for infections within certain rural counties. In Tennessee for example:
Steward County, TN 21% or 1/5 people have been infected
Trousdale County, TN 12% or 1 out of every 8 people
Union County, TN 6.8% or 1/15
In comparison NYC is 2.1% or 1/48.
Amen! Wake up!
Then they said there was a shortage of masks then they made its mandatory to wear one!
The truth is that there will be NO vaccine, there will be NO ‘magic bullet’.
Like all viruses, it will simply have to work its way through the population until we have ‘herd immunity’ and/or it *DISAPPEARS* as these types of viruses have often done in the past.
And no one knows why. The ‘experts’ are LYING on so many levels it impossible to keep count.
Open the country back up - but make everyone use masks, ‘social distancing’, desinfecting (as we are seeing in grocery stores), and keep the most vulnerable hidden away until it passes.
The toll will be in the hundreds of thousands. That cannot be changed.
But we don’t have to drive the nation into a Depression over it.
