(Reuters) - The coronavirus has been a far deadlier threat in New Orleans than the rest of the United States, with a per-capita death rate much higher than in New York City. This going to slam the Black community in big cities. Higher obesity, DM and hypertension rates.
Obesity might be raising Michigan’s numbers, too.
Now that is useful data.
Ever been to NO, the petri dish of a city??
Sure. Get that out there. After this is all over, some journalist will add up the numbers, and see that the virus had a disproportionate impact on a certain highly-privileged victim group, and Trump will be called racist.
Obesity, diabetes, alcohol, and I think a lot of people got infected during Mardi Gras
Pauve ti bete!
Cuz’ every-thang be Étouffée.
What’s DM?
It wont be long before someone decides that it is not obesity but racism that is causing the problem.
LOL. Sung to the tune of Short People, by Randy Newman?
New Orleans itself is a contaminated environment.
I’ve heard New Orleans has a large black population, both in actual numbers and as a percentage of the population.
It’s probably poitically incorrect to mention that in conjunction with this health emergency.
Was thinking these same thoughts this morning.
We are all at risk.
But, black communities in inner cities, Hispanics in densely populated areas seem to have a disproportionate risk. I wonder about Appalachian areas that have access issues with intensive medical care. However, most of these areas have the advantage of isolation, and not living on top of each other. Literally
Yep, it was the first twisted thought that entered my mind :)
Diabetes Mellitus, I think.
Diabetes Mellitus
DM =Dungeon Master?
Reuters. Who believes them? (Just parroting why I read on every FR thread.)
I think the viral load was probably higher due to multiple exposures AND high blood pressure a diabetes will get you killed.
