"Doctor Who" just made history with its first ever black Doctor, who was revealed during Sunday night's episode "Fugitive of the Judoon."
Jo Martin, playing the first black incarnation of the Doctor, was shockingly revealed to the 13th Doctor, portrayed by Jodie Whittaker. Whittaker was the first female incarnation of the character.
In the episode, written by Vinay Patel and Chris Chibnall, Martin's character, a tour guide in the English city Gloucester named Ruth Clayton, surprisingly announces that she is the Doctor.
The historic revelation came after a TARDIS was dug up from under Clayton's lighthouse childhood home. But neither one of the Doctors recognized each other.
"You're in my future, not the other way around," Martin's Doctor says.
"I've never been anything like you ...Trust me, I'd remember, especially that shirt," the 13th Doctor says. Though the show has had a host of strong female characters along with Whittaker -- from Michelle Gomez's The Master and Alex Kingston's River Song to companions like Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rose (Billie Piper) -- no black woman has ever portrayed the title character.

As someone who is only interested in the Matt Smith/Amy Pond episodes, is it possible to scroll the entire schedule and determine day/time of specific episodes?
You forgot first sneering, hateful, middle-school female self-rightious-but-wrong, blank face scold.
Not that I’ve found. :(
That show has 24 episodes and a follow up season with the same. Watch the whole thing it’s some of the most engaging sci-fi you’ll ever see, and I say that as someone who read nearly everything Heinlein ever put to print.
I really liked the Matt Smith Amy Pond pairing. Good chemistry.

Show’s ratings not low enough?
But Doctor Who is something I could never warm up to.
Oh,well! Different strokes for different folks.
“Woke is broke, baby.”
I like it, will put it in the repertoire.
Brits pay a mandatory boob tube tax.
BBC gets paid anyway.
lol

Seems like they are cycling the role on a shorter and shorter cycle. It shouldn’t be long until they get to a new person in the starring role every episode.
But isn’t it insulting to women and minorities that they don’t get as long in the roles as did the old white guy at the beginning?
Yep, the only conclusion is that the producers are bigots.
I found the entire Dr Who series to be excruciatingly boring...except for the Matt Smith/Amy Pond series.
To be totally accurate in a British show the doctor should be Pakistani.
I like the Smith/Amy episodes as well. It was interesting watching him grow into the role. He started out weak, but finished pretty well.
It has been very good, after 3 bad seasons.
Hopefully she is a lesbian transvestite to make it a complete transistion.
I hate modern life. Western Civilization is circling the drain so fast, it is not funny. I have no problem with a TV show featuring a brilliant black female doctor. Make one. Make some. I am sure there is a rich market for it. But you don’t destroy icons by radically changing them to what they were never intended to be. The left destroys everything it touches. Reverse Midas.
Puke.
No room for White male heroes (or even leads) anymore.
No reason to watch TV or movies.(Unless of course the female lead is totally hot and almost always in a bikini)
