New treatment for killing cancer cells may have accidentally been discovered by a group of British scientists, according to reports.
Cardiff Universitys research team found a T-Cell that attaches itself onto human cancers, and kills them while ignoring healthy cells. Although in its early stages of development, the treatment successfully destroys bone, lung, breast, colon, prostate, and other cancers, The Telegraph reported. Originally, researchers were only looking for immune cells that were capable of fighting bacteria, before they discovered the T-Cell virus. Their findings were made available on Monday.
Theres a chance here to treat every patient, Professor Andrew Sewell of Cardiff University told the BBC. Previously nobody believed this could be possible. It raises the prospect of a one-size-fits-all cancer treatment, a single type of T-cell that could be capable of destroying many different types of cancers across the population.
A T-cell is a white blood cell in the immune system that fights off cancers and helps prevent the body from getting infected. Researchers note the receptors on the newly discovered T-cells may be able to locate cancers by using the molecule known as MR1. They believe this molecule could be alerting the T-cells of the infected metabolism present on cancerous cells.
We are the first to describe a T-cell that finds MR1 in cancer cellsthat hasnt been done before, this is the first of its kind, the studies co-author Gary Dolton said to the BBC.
In the past, researchers have gained knowledge of the human immune system through the growth of cancer immunotherapy. One of the most successful being that of CAR-T, better known as a drug made by genetically modifying an individuals T-Cells to destroy cancerous regions of the body, as reported by Newsweek.

You won’t hear much more about this. Too much money in treating cancer and in researching eliminating cancer to actually eliminate it.
“Might?” A very big word.
Right up there with that Cold Fusion the Utah scientists discovered 20 years ago
Next weeks news will describe the airplane crash that killed all of the researchers along with their research papers.
Great. Just after I had my prostate fried to a crisp.
I would say, "Cynical much?" except that you may just be (sadly) more right than wrong in your opinion.
If anyone found an effective cancer treatment that is universally effective for most cancers, they would be a celebrity beyond celebrities, and if they held a patent they would be so wealthy they could make Bill Gates their pool boy. Thus, there is absolutely no way a viable cancer therapy will be suppressed.
More to the point, with regards this particular post, is that there are always 'gee whiz', 'unbelievable', earth shattering discoveries that ultimately prove to be just another addition to the armamentarium against disease. Rarely is there ever anything that ultimately proves to be a miraculous cure.
T-Cells? Zombie apocalypse? What?
4 itchy tasty.
And it's still just 10 years away from being commercially available...
This is impossible. We have been told time-after-time that advancements in medicine, particularly in drugs, are impossible without the profiteering, free wheeling, free enterprise system that is American Medicine. That great burgeoning medical industrial complex that saves lives and commandeers 25% of the GDP and aims to get even more. The system that intends to exchange all of our money if possible for our lives while preying on human frailty and even love to no good end since we will all die one day anyway. Sounds strangely like extortion doesn’t it?
Viagra was discovered by accident while searching for a better blood pressure lowering medication.
I’d love to be wrong. It’d be great to be able to save our loved ones (and ourselves) from this horrible misery.
Also, where there may be a big profit in fighting cancer, it's also true that all cancer researchers, their families and the owners of cancer research institutes are themselves just as subject to the disease as anyone else.
