‘You’re a bunch of dopes and babies’: Inside Trump’s stunning tirade against generals
Washington Compost ^ | Jan 17, 2020 | Carol Leonnig, Philip Rucker

There is no more sacred room for military officers than 2E924 of the Pentagon, a windowless and secure vault where the Joint Chiefs of Staff meet regularly to wrestle with classified matters. Its more common name is “the Tank.” The Tank resembles a small corporate boardroom, with a gleaming golden oak table, leather swivel armchairs and other mid-century stylings. Inside its walls, flag officers observe a reverence and decorum for the wrenching decisions that have been made there.

Hanging prominently on one of the walls is The Peacemakers, a painting that depicts an 1865 Civil War strategy session with President Abraham Lincoln and his three service chiefs — Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant, Major General William Tecumseh Sherman, and Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter. One hundred fifty-two years after Lincoln hatched plans to preserve the Union, President Trump’s advisers staged an intervention inside the Tank to try to preserve the world order....

Trump organized his unorthodox worldview under the simplistic banner of “America First,” but Mattis, Tillerson, and Cohn feared his proposals were rash, barely considered, and a danger to America’s superpower standing. They also felt that many of Trump’s impulsive ideas stemmed from his lack of familiarity with U.S. history and, even, where countries were located. To have a useful discussion with him, the trio agreed, they had to create a basic knowledge, a shared language....

“You’re all losers,” Trump said. “You don’t know how to win anymore.”

Don’t kid yourself; there are millions who haven’t grown up, and who frothingly read that crap and agree with it.

Another hit job by the girls at the Compost, hoping to turn the military against the best CIC in 50 years. Wonder who the crybabies at the Pentagon were who helped them. By the way, how many years has it been since we won a war? How much taxpayer money has been spent on the military since then?

Anyone who has been in the military knows it is far from perfect, like all groups made up of imperfect people.

This ia a carbon copy, I MEAN A CARBON COPY, of the way Stanton and the other treated Lincoln, in fact they treated Lincoln probably worse, in the beginning.

Lincoln was very patient with them, and put in command loser after loser.

I don’t think these people, or even us for that matter, realize how smart Trump is, but more important HOW LONG HE’S THOUGHT AND DEBATED THESE ISSUES.

Maybe Bannon did have an influence on him.

America has not expended tons of lives in Afghanistan.

For young men, Chicago and Baltimore are more dangerous than Afghanistan. More Marines were killed at either Tarawa or Pelilu or Iwo Jima than in Afghanistan in the whole time since the beginning

our location in Afghanistan is strategic. Bases in Afghanistan and Iraq flank the real enemy that is Iran.

Trump reminds me about how the press and others treated Ditka when he came to the Bears. Ditka had enough of the losing attitude not only with the players, but the press field that covered them.

Ditka, called them all cowards, when they told him to tone down his rhetoric about opposing teams esp the Packers.

Winning is everything...Trump got a couple wins in his pocket... that built his confidence to go further.

He did this all while under fire from all sides.

I would guess the argument for us being there is to have a strategic place to deploy from?
Since the ME is probably our biggest threat, not to mention NK and the like, that is why we are stationed there?

His “unorthodox” worldview consisted of not empire building and removal from wars which were unnecessary and drained the nation’s wealth and youth. But the military-industrial complex, now we see supported by one of the propaganda wings of the Dem Party, would prefer to cast out insults and nonsense to attack him. Let the blood of US soldiers be on their heads and the heads of their children.

The military promotes people who are much better social engineers / SJWs than they are war fighters and leaders.

It has been observed that adequate or even marginal leaders and warriors but who are SJW crusaders who drank all the Kool Aid are promoted with enthusiasm.

On the other hand, great leaders who are equally great war fighters but who scoff at the SJW crap are simply cast aside.

General McClellan called Lincoln names and was insubordinate to him as Lincoln pushed him to fight instead of hesitating indefinitely. Lincoln fired him.

Here’s the problem.....

The US Army has spent more time and effort picking out a new dress uniform than they have looking for someone who can win in Afghanistan.

I expected significant blowback from the career military after there was the absence of a strong response to the tragedy of October 23, 1983. Soon after that, with two decades in the Navy, I came to my senses. The botched diplomat rescue in Iran, should have been my first clue. The defense establishment was simply not interested in standing up to civilian masters whose first priority was social experimentation, not readiness.

If Trump can put some steel back into our military leadership, that alone will justify four more years as our CinC.
