W was at the end of his officer commission, and the C.O. figured it wouldn't be cost effective to train him on another aircraft and just let W go. There were documents to substantiate that. Plus, IIRC, W asked for duty in Viet Nam while still flying.
A LOT of the real patriots were purged by Obamatard in the first 4 years and replaced by limp-wristed SWJ fag-loving officers..

The most hazardous military occupation in peacetime is flying high performance military aircraft.
Particularly a temperamental interceptor like the F-102 which Bush flew, which had a relatively high accident rate.
