Patrick Stewart returns to Star Trek and the role of Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS streaming show, but the reason it exists at all is, unsurprisingly, political. The liberal actor told Variety this week that Picard is me responding to the world of Brexit and Trump. He also said that the United States (under Trump) and Britain (under Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson) are completely f****d.
Talking to Varietys Daniel Holloway, Stewart explained why his character is getting a revival:
Trump seemed to be responsible for a lot of old TV shows coming back. In 2018, the creator of the '80s/'90s sitcom Murphy Brown explained why that show returned: We definitely wouldn't have had the show if Trump hadnt won. She added, We didn't have a motivation do it. We didn't really have the meat or a story. And then when the election happened, I mean, if Hillary had won, we would just be dancing in the streets.
Stewart connected the United States, Britain, Brexit, Trump and Johnson into one political lament:
Im not sure which one of us is in the most trouble, he says of Britain and the United States. I think its actually the U.K. I think were fed, completely fed. He points to studies predicting decades-long economic damage inflicted by the countrys looming withdrawal from the European Union. Of the U.S., he says, There is a time limit to your fed state, which is four years away. He expresses hope that the United States that has given us the Trump administration can change...
But, the actor added, He will likely get reelected..
In November of 2019, Stewart told a French audience that hes embarrassed by Brexit and thinks its a disgrace.

B5 was better in every way, Londo.
CBS All Access just lost 20 million subscriptions. For being so smart, these people sure are dumb.
If one of the 3 networks WASN’T “actively hostile” towards Trump, the money they would make would be staggering.
They are fighting each other to see who can go out of business first. Morons.
If I watch any ‘space opera’, it will be ‘The Orville’, if it is still on and is carried over the air in Kanadahar.
It is still on, but moving from Fox to Hulu streaming service.
But Riker was bi-sexual, there were episodes of him hooking up with trannys.
Do you realize Barbara Eden is 88 years old?!
There, fixed it. :-)
I preferred Sisko from Deep Space Nine over either Janeway or Picard.
Gene Roddenberry would NOT be amused with Patrick Stewart's stunt...
Patrick Stewart is a self-professed atheist and "democratic socialist" in the Bernie Sanders vein, so I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Of course, a death bed conversion is possible, miracles do happen.
To be fair, Ricky Gervais is likewise an unabashed atheist socialist from the UK, he's just anti-SJW and can't stand virtue signaling.
Until recently, Stewart was anti-SJW as well, I recall he earned the wrath of the "bake the cake, bigot!" fascists when he said he sided with the Christian bakery shop in the UK a few years back. Stewart was a long time supporter of gay marriage but said he believed in freedom of speech and the bakery has the right to write to refuse to write whatever they want.
Stewart seems to have been assimilated into the SJW collective in his old age.
BTW, the new Picard show is being made by the SAME people who made Discovery, so I am simply going to assume it will suck until it is PROVEN otherwise. I am done with "giving them a chance". I gave them a chance with Star Trek Into Darkness and they gave us "Khan is now a white british guy" and I gave them a chance with STD and they gave us a magic mushroom drive and an entire cast of characters that are either non-entities or outright unlikable douchebags. Ensign Tilly is the "best" character on STD simply by virtue of being the ONLY one that counts as an actual character. On a real Star Trek show, she'd one of the minor secondary players like Kes.
In Short, everything Alex Kurtzman is "in charge" of us turns to crap. You can look at his entire track record for over a decade to verify that. I will be shocked if Picard turns out to be an exception to the rule.
Actually the new show might explain why a Frenchman speaks with an English accent. Some fans have conjectured a rebirth of the Duchy of Normandy. I suppose Stewart would insist on an English family coming over on the Chunnel and marrying into the Picard family but adopting English as the family language.
My exroommate was named Pickard but was of English heritage
Another coup by Lucius Aelius Sejanus.
Yeah it was more like a college teachers lounge then Star Trek : )
Too much ‘feelings’ and not enough green women.
#66 Id visit Barbara Eden in there every day
and she would be green as Kirk likes his women.
#80 There was one thing that kept me watching...
2 or 3 things as I see them... : )
Alex Kurtzman has that prototypical Cuck face. One you just want to walk up to and punch. I grew up on the red-blooded, patriotic TOS Trek (even if it was JFK’s New Frontier patriotism). This limp-microdicked, ultraPC feminazi totalitarian SJW faggotry today is pure evil.
Let’s all be thankful they aren’t doing a series on Wesley.
I hate to say it but TNG took off after Gene R died. I think season 3 or 4.
Yeah the world will want to tune in to an 80 year old captain :)
