I believe it is the duty of our electeds in congress to give the American people a full and prolonged trial in the Senate.
It is our right to hear every witness the Trump defense team wishes to call testify under oath.
Lindsey Graham's comments about needing a speedy resolution is another of his cowardly retreats in an effort to cover up the criminality in DC - he's channeling John McCain.

That said: I don't know how much influence can come from the presiding Justice which would be quisling John Roberts, but does anyone know if he could be asked to recuse himself because of his FISC involvement in appointing judges that rubber stamped the fraudulent FISA requests?.

I can definitely see both sides of this. On the one hand, I agree that this impeachment is such a farce that it should be dismissed immediately in order to avoid lending it any sense of legitimacy. On the other hand, I certainly understand the desire to have a full trial so that Republicans can finally tell the true story, and can haul Schiff, Biden (both of them), maybe the whistleblower, etc. before the Senate and question them under oath.
I could go either way, but I think I still agree with immediately disposing of it like the utter trash it is.

Mike Lee sounded pretty forceful tonight on Shannon Bream’s show that they will defend Trump and have witnesses. It was very refreshing to see him so behind Trump. LG can go freep himself.

I agree it is vital that a full hearing is held for the public, with Trumps side of the story provided openly. The country needs to see the criminals and seditious traitors brought out into the open and interrogated under oath. Only then will the truth have a chance of sinking into the public mind.
Then they can vote for acquittal and go home.

Graham was in up to his neck with McCain on all of it.
The illegal overthrow of the Libyan govt., the arming of Syrian jihadists from Libya, the Ukraine mess, the dossier dissemination, all of it.
He wants a truncated Senate process to keep his own dirt secret.

The simplest solution is the best. “Our client is not guilty, your honor!”. All in favor say Aye. Bang the gavel.
A lengthy trial is just fapping material for political junkies. You’ll see the same kind of democrat grandstanding during their half of the time and regular people will only see “Trump’s on trial, he must have done something wrong”.
I want to see Humper Biden on the stand alright, in a courtroom where he could go to prison if guilty, not in the Senate chamber where nothing will happen. Anyone who thinks this guy gives a shite about public humiliation hasn’t been paying much attention.
Senator Graham is exactly right. End this as quickly as possible. Do not try to out shit-show the Democrats, they are masters at it.

They want it all to go away. No one in the swamp wants scrutiny of past dealings.
Let it all fade away and get back to serving the country......

Trump has pretty good instincts. If he wants a trial, they should give him one. It will be cathartic for the country.

They should vote to acquit ASAP. The farce should be disposed of just like you would wipe the dogshit off your shoe when you step in it.
Here’s what’s gonna happen:
Both sides, the House prosecutor(s) and Trump’s defense team will present their arguments for and against. There will be no witnesses.
The Senate will vote, with all Republicans voting No, and all but two democrats voting yes.

What is there to try? Once you eliminate all the hearsay testimony, on both sides of the question, there is nothing to decide. Remember that the Democrats have been trying and trying and trying since December 2016 to come up with any grounds to send Trump back to New York (or, now, Florida).
The most important question has NOT been asked by anyone: what has Trump done that wasn't done by Obama?

As soon as the House Dem's bogus Impeachment document hits the Senate, Mitch should call for an immediate vote to dismiss it as an obvious political fraud. The vote will break strictly along party lines. It will never come to trial.
Then an appropriate Senate committee should open an investigation of this fraud on these United States--and let the Senate investigations spread and deepen into the summer of 2020--dominating the political landscape with one Dem outrage after another dragged kicking and screaming onto the brightly lit political stage of an American election season.

The problem is that the Democrats limited the articles of impeachment to "obstruction of Congress" because President Trump went to the courts for protection of his rights, and "obstruction of justice" because he asserted executive privilege.
Any trial would be limited to defending against those two narrow charges only. This is why they ultimately dropped quid pro quo/bribery, because defending against that charge would allow Trump to call witnesses that would expose everyone else.

That’s incorrect. All throughout Thursday’s hearing republicans asked that question and even brought up examples of 0bama and his overreach.

“how much influence can come from the presiding Justice which would be quisling John Roberts”
I worry SO MUCH about that, considering how he screwed us on Obamacare. It Trump is demanding a full trial/hearing, he’d better be careful what he wishes for if Roberts is running the show. There’s no way the FISA judges, including Roberts who oversees them, weren’t complicit in this. Trump might want to think about letting Graham and McConnell have the Senate dismiss (good) or acquit (better), and then let that be good enough. Roberts cannot be trusted!!
Whatever blackmail info they had on Roberts then still exists.
