Disney+ Cuts Song Deemed ‘Problematic’ From Live-Action ‘Lady and the Tramp’

Amidst technical troubles, Disney+ launched Tuesday, including the release of a live-action version of the beloved canine classic Lady and the Tramp. But it wasn’t a glitch that left a song out of the movie, it was political correctness.

The music in question (maybe a better name would be Disney- for subtracting songs) was “The Siamese Cat Song” from the 1955 original, where troublemaking twin cats sing about being from Siam (modern day Thailand). You may remember the jingle, "We are Siamese, if you please."

Decider was all over it, declaring the song to be “problematic” and “reductive of Asian culture,” explaining:

The ‘Siamese Cat Song’ is a racist caricature of what white people thought of Asian people at the time. Their names are racist (“Si” and “Am”), their design is racist (those teeth), their voices are racist (that broken English and accent), and the music is racist (that gong). Their role in the plot is also racist: these Asian [sic] absolutely trash Lady’s home, and frame her for the whole thing. They’re outright villains.

OFFS! Good thing they "nipped" that before it offended someone. And we're not just talking the Asian issue here. What about offending actual Siamese twins? Dumbassery continues.

Hmmmm. What about offending homeless people by mentioning “tramps”? What about that? More dumbassery.

I haven’t heard the term Siamese twins in years. I think it was deemed offensive.

I haven’t heard the term Indian summer in years either.

There are certain things which you are not supposed to say anymore..........

Oh, that’s right. “Conjoined twins”. Guess I forgot what the warm spell we’re having right now “should” be called. Indiginous summer

So they didn’t say anything about Lady dressed up in her doggie Fem-Dom outfit?

It’s the principle of the thing, not the song.

That’s why I have the Blu-ray of the original movie. I would never buy a digital copy of a Disney movie at this time for fear of it being cut to shreds by the Disney censors. And I have no interest in the live-action/CGI remakes anyway.

Disney management deserves to be scratched by 100 Si-Am-ese cats!

I’ve watched this movie several times via DVD and have never thought about the Siamese cats as being racist. Maybe there’s something wrong with me?

Walt Disney is probably exceeding 30,000 rpm about now.

The mention of it remarkable. Usually there is no mention of the ripping up and editing anything deemed offensive. They destroyed many of the old TV shows and movies already.

“Oreintal” is supposedly offensive and I still see no compelling reason why.

Just more of the same.
Many years ago they dumbed down Aesop’s Fables because of violence.

LOL....anyone who has ever HAD a Siamese cat or two knows that the song absolutely NAILS IT about their feline personalities. Racism has zip whatsoever to do with it.

Disney has completely lost their mind. I suspect eventually it will catch up with their creative edge, if it already has not...given that most of their big hits of late years have been bought from other creators (Pixar, Marvel).

I am of Asian ascent and the song doesn’t bother me. It’s just a silly children’s movie song. It didn’t bother me when I was a child, hell, I even SANG IT!....................................

Well this is comforting because now as an American of Italian descent I’m sure another gangster movie will never be made. Unless it depicts the gangsters as utter gentleman and Robin hoods just fighting against Corporate America.

And yes I love gangster movies. Knockaround Guys was an underrated movie.
Not Goodfellas but Very good.

State of Grace about the Westies was another one that’s really good.

See I don’t give a flying **** with other people think of Italians because they don’t matter to me

And speaking about rape of the cultures every Asian should stay the **** away from espresso and pizza and whatever the **** other things that we brought over.
