Impeachment Could Keep Senators Running For President Off The Campaign Trail For Weeks

An impeachment trial of President Donald Trump could keep Democratic presidential candidates who are also senators off the campaign trail for weeks.
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, California Sen. Kamala Harris, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren would be required to stay in Washington, D.C., during an impeachment trial, according to BuzzFeed News.
Senate rules require senators to be present in session Monday through Saturday beginning at noon every day for an impeachment trial, BuzzFeed reported. Former President Bill Clintons impeachment trial took several weeks.
Bennet said he is unsure whether he could continue campaigning if an impeachment trial takes place, he told BuzzFeed.

Where? Can you please post a link? Thanks.
Exactly right. The “rules” never apply to Democrats. They will simply ignore them.
The quote is Captain Ahab in Moby Dick, and yes, it's a perfect description of the modern left.
It's been said that God angers people before he kills them.
Currently the Legislative Branch is expressing their impeachment authority as part of the Legislative Branch purpose.
That raises the issue of an entirely different type of subpoena:
A demand from congress that penetrates the constitutional separation of powers.
It further penetrates the legal authority of Executive Branch executive privilege.
======================================
POINTS TO PONDER
It was separately established by SCOTUS during the Nixon impeachment investigation that
*IF* the full House votes to have the Judiciary Committee commence an impeachment investigation,
then the Judiciary Committee has subpoena power that can overcome executive privilege claims.
<><> There has been NO VOTE to create that level of subpoena power.
<><> ergo, the House has not created a process to penetrate the constitutionally inherent separation of powers,
<><> nor the legally recognized firewall known as executive privilege.
<><> a House vote authorizes the committee impeachment investigation,
<><> only then does the committee gains judicial enforcement authority.
<><> thus creating the penalty for non-compliance with an impeachment subpoena.
======================================
A demand letter only becomes a subpoena (technically a request for the production of documents with a penalty for non-compliance) when the committee has judicial enforcement authority.
Only then does that process establish an enforcement penalty.
The current demand letters cannot carry a penalty because the demands do not contain judicial enforcement authority....simply because the impeachment investigation was not authorized by the chamber.
The reason judicial enforcement authority is constitutionally required is because creating Judicial enforcement authority, creating the penalty for non-compliance, gives the Executive Branch a process to appeal any legislative demand via the Judicial Branch (federal courts).
Absent a penalty for non-compliance, which factually makes a subpoena a subpoena, the Executive Branch has no process to engage an appellate review by federal courts.
This, then, is the purposeful trick within the Pelosi/Lawfare road-map.
the senators function as jurors, and during such time they are not allowed to campaign at all

This means nothing. Democrats could care less; they make up rules as they go along or simply ignore them.
The Pubbies won’t enforce anything or push their own weight around so there’s absolutely no incentive for Dems to abide by any rules they don’t like.
That’s it in a nutshell. Its all a big distraction.
I can’t argue with that.
They do whatever they want, because heretofore they have been untouchable.
An excellent point and far more valid than Trump asking the Ukraine President to look into previous corruption by the obama administration. It's a US President's job to verify bonafides and find out if he can trust a given country's leadership as well as root out corruption within his own country's government.
In other news; I don't think any sitting dem senator has a shot at becoming the dem nominee. I've been wrong before though...
It has to be the most perfect description of the Left I’ve seen.
The most “tolerant” are fueled the most raging hate for a single person that I’ve ever seen.
And they hate us for putting him there, and they want to make us answer for that.
check!
Devil always overplays his little hand!
In practice, if Trump is impeached, the Senate will take the rules adopted as to Clinton and Nixon and federal judicial removals and then follow them more or less intact. Those precedents require the Senators to attend the impeachment proceeding in person and to vote by roll call on issues of law and fact and on the ultimate decision to remove or acquit.
I believe that the Senate can also dismiss the impeachment charge through an abbreviated proceeding, as was done with the Clinton impeachment.
As I said elsewhere on this thread, one party is strong and the other is weak. Unfortunately weakness always loses out to strength.
If I was a Democrat I’d say full speed ahead because there’s no reason to ever pull back, stop or even moderate their abuses. They are allowed to run wild, and not surprisingly that’s exactly what they are doing.
Rules Shmules.
I don’t see how any Democrat senator running for the presidency could “sit” as a juror in an impeachment. They would certainly need to recuse themselves, and thus be free to campaign.....UNLESS there is a specific rule disallowing campaigning even if recused.
Agree, Mitt is a stickler for whatever benefits Mitt.
Like all politicians in DC, he’s just another professional liar.
Senate will have rules. House has no rules. Can you correct?
I believe that the Senate can also dismiss the impeachment charge through an abbreviated proceeding, as was done with the Clinton impeachment.

You may be right but I doubt any proceedings would be abbreviated. The lure of cameras and high political theater trumps all in DC. They will want to maximize their exposure given such a golden opportunity to become a household name.
Its not about doing the right thing for the country. Its about doing the right thing for their careers.
Versus the Democrats, it is basically Trump and us.
I think we should take the time to point out a few outstanding members of the GOP, such as Gaetz and Jordan.
This is the time to fight, men.
The greatest threat to America comes from within.
demonkkkRATs don’t recognize or play by any rules, except their own, so it won’t happen.
