SALEM Oregon is close to becoming the 15th state to signal that it will award its Electoral College votes to the presidential candidate who receives the most votes nationwide.
On a 37-22 party line vote, the Democratic majority in the Oregon House sent Senate Bill 870 to the desk of Democratic Gov. Kate Brown, who has indicated her support.
Instead, said Rep. Allisa Keny-Guyer, D-Portland, the compact would make Oregon more relevant during presidential campaigns. The Republican presidential candidates write Oregon totally off, and the Democratic candidates take Oregon for granted, she said. So we are just relegated to being a spectator state.
You’re right there is no formal construct called the “national popular vote” The best that these compact States might do to pass muster is by saying that the total popular votes of all compact states is the standard, however even this could be problematic under the equal protection rules.
This is a great point. The federal Secretary of State does not certify vote totals, like the state level Secretaries of State do.
Since Oregon is (proposing) to award their E.C. votes based on other states vote totals, they are like violating either the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment, or Article 1, Section 10. Or both.
This BS needs to go to the supreme court now. How does that happen? Does a person in that State have to file to have standing?
Thats exactly my point.
...i dont see how trump can win the popular vote,.

One of the points being agreed to in the trade talks with Mexico is the deportation of illegal entrants already present.
Also, the progs, as is their wont, are tightening up control within their own party by advocating the purge of any registered D who is pro-life.
Less illegals, fewer registered citizen Ds whose vote can be cast by the Party and, perhaps, Ds who will vote R.
Ds who sit it out will, of course, have their votes cast by the Party, so there is that.
I simply cannot see how a candidate who supports the marginalization (and worse) of all white males and the eventual political irrelevancy of whites as a race, can attract the number of voters needed, even with fraud.
Addendum: Trump said at a recent press conference that efforts were underway ‘as much as possible’ to use paper ballots. Those can be forged, too, but they are more time-consuming to produce and need more co-ordination to be inserted into the ballot boxes.
I’m hoping that election observation will be increased.
And, of course, there is the now-famous Trump curse to consider. It is usually some variant of “careful what you wish for.”
This is a complicated issue, and according to the Wikipedia article which cites several sources, including lawyers on both sides, the standing is not obvious. Some believe only presidential candidates will have standing...
I thought so.
What happened? Calis moved up, didn’t they?
I know that is frustrating, but with all the evil, destructive people who were waiting for him in DC., I just
don’t know how I would have handled THAT surprise.
Let’s hope all that nonsense is over, but listening to that witch Pelosi saying she “wants him in jail” it might take some getting around to important things.
I really HATE that woman.
Yup...probably the biggest reason...and school indoctrination
Historically, has the incumbent who won the general election secured the popular vote as well as the electoral vote?
I agree bump.
This ridiculous “compact” will not go into effect unless they have a total of states with at least 270 electoral votes.
They’re at about 180 - 190 and are not expected to reach 270 by November 2020.
If you would like more information about what's happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me.
We are very aware of what the dimocrats are trying to do.
I had this conversation with an anti-Trumper on FB. I don’t think she knows how the EC works.
The only way to change our electoral system is by broad agreement across political divides. That’s the way it’s done in civilized, ‘free’ countries.
In this case, one side of the political divide is attempting to overrule the other side, and the Constitution, via extra-constitutional measures. It’s not going to work, as it’s being done through force, and outside of the agreed upon mechanism of the amendment process.
That’s how you start a civil war.
But not so artistically pretty.
Even if that was unintentional I love how "teems" better illustrates the swarming of predatory parasites attacking a body when it stumbles.
As it is, all I've seen so far is states that Trump likely isn't going to win in 2020, even against the worst candidate the DEMs could possibly prop up. Many parts of this country are that far gone.
I wonder. The DEMs always think long-term, so they might let Trump win under such a scenario with the belief that it would legitimize a popular vote election going forward. That’s the ultimate goal.
