My argument is that trying to overthrow our government is an act of an enemy and treason is aiding or abetting an enemy.

The Treasurer screwed up badly, forcing bankruptcy. Instantly the business and government big shots clammored for a tax increase.
In possible the last act of old OC conservatism, the voters turned down the tax increase.
Government eemployee unions rule the day in most jurisdictions. Their pay and pensions uber alles.
There's not going back from that - it was the first (public) shot of open treason. Tweet, complain or belligerently accuse without follow-up, and the conclusion is baked in.
