New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said on MSNBC Monday morning his city will ban inefficient steel and glass skyscrapers as part of their Green New Deal.
While Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs Green New Deal sputtered in Washington D.C., her home city of New York has embraced key pillars of the plan.
When asked about it on Morning Joe, de Blasio outlined the proposal.
We are making the Green New Deal come alive here in New York City, he said. Its three very basic ideas. One, the biggest source of emissions in New York City is buildings.

There have been energy standards for buildings for eons. He's going to tighten them in NYC. This is nothing new. It's just a hyperbolic headline to get a rise out of everybody.
However, there IS this --> If someone wants to build one of those things they can take a whole lot of steps to make it energy efficient, but were not going to allow what weve seen in the past.
That is reminiscent of The One proclaiming in his January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board --> If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. Its just that it will bankrupt them...Under my plan
electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.
Not just different building methods- but also the planes that hit on 9/11 were larger, faster, inserted at an angle to cut through multiple floors, fully tanked up with fuel, and someone with knowledge of the building plans organized the attack so its aftermath would create the conditions necessary to bring down the structure...not a random hit. If the same WW2 bomber had hit the WTC, not much more would have happened to the WTC than happened way back then on the old building.
C’mon, GOP, conservatives
These idiots are giving you talking points along with commercials after commercials
Display their insanity . . . SAY IT LOUD
AOC’s latest video that explains all:
Wait till this reaches the iron workers and steam fitters. Mullah deblasio better stay away from construction sites
One, the biggest source of emissions in New York City is buildings.
No. 1 on the list is the Mayor’s Office
...and when told other materials won’t work due to the “laws of physics” their response is “what laws are these? we can change the law!”.
;p
Why not? San Francisco already does. Seattle is close behind as is Portland.
Heck yeah! Sod skyscrapers are the best! So energy efficient. So beautiful to behold, especially at the end of the dry season. And using unicorn poop as mortar is a genius idea.
Great idea....build them out of plywood and plastic.
A little late for that, no? The whole city is glass and steel. Mayor Moron.
Who are the morons, the Mayor, or the people who vote for him?
All Democrats are duty-bound to commit suicide to save the planet.
Give De Babbio a couple of decades in office and he will have NYC looking like East Berlin! Given NYC’s “status” ( dubious as it is) in the world, having it sink into the $hit hole of Socialism/Marxism would be a wonderful “teaching moment.” For the rest of the country to see exactly how S/M “works” could be a deterrent to other cities going down that same road. Then again, considering who’s running all of our major cities, maybe not! I think, going forward, the idea of walling off our major cities, may be the only way to save the rest of the country.
Having been through Hong Kong in the 1980’s, bamboo and hemp cord is good for a solid 20 floors. (Scaffolding)
Hold ma’ beer, I got this.
“You’re optimistic, try Mogadishu.”
Have you ever seen just how drab the buildings in East Berlin were before the wall fell? The only place that comes close today here in the US is Burlington, VT. Or at least it did the last time I was there a decade ago.
