Four years ago, Democrats were gearing up for a pre-determined outcome, the anointing of Hillary Clinton as the partys presidential candidate. Convinced they were on the right side of history, Democrats believed Hillary was destined to succeed Barack Obama, Americas first black president, by becoming our first female president. The only real opposition to Mrs. Clintons nomination came from Bernie Sanders, the socialist senator from Vermont who had never previously identified as a Democrat. The weakness of Hillarys candidacy was exposed in the 2016 primary campaign, when Bernie and his wild-eyed supporters very nearly derailed her nomination, being foiled by the Clinton machines control of so-called super-delegates. Meanwhile, Donald Trump stunned the Republican establishment by running roughshod over a field of 16 other GOP hopefuls, then shocked the world by upsetting Mrs. Clinton on Election Day.
As the Democrats prepare for 2020, the number of entries for their presidential primary campaign is expanding rapidly and whoever gets the nomination to face Trump next year will first have to defeat more than a dozen rivals. There is no pre-anointed front-runner this time, changes to the partys rules have diminished the power of super-delegates, and rage against the incumbent Republican has inspired a lot of Democrats who almost certainly have no chance of winning to throw their hats into the presidential ring. The announced format for the first televised debates among the Democrat hopefuls will include as many as 20 candidates, randomly divided into two separate debate groups, with such criteria as fundraising and poll numbers determining who gets on the stage. So while most of the national media coverage has focused on a handful of big names Sanders, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, California Sen. Kamala Harris, former Texas Rep. I wish hitlery would come back and drive the clown car. She could have wreck after wreck after wreck and it would be so much fun for all in the clown car and the audience.
Seems to me that the real opposition to Hillary came from America’s voters. You know; the ones with the common sense.
But if the presidency was stolen from Mrs Clinton by Trump and his Russian handlers, why aren’t the democrats demanding that she be given the nomination without opposition to settle the score with OrangeMan and at least give her the “second term” run? That seems the only fair way to handle it. Something smells.
1) They hope that lightning strikes. When Bill Clinton jumped in in 1992, George Bush was very popular. Many of the leading Democrats, like Mario Cuomo and Jesse Jackson sat out, giving lesser lightweights like Clinton and Paul Tsongas the field. Ross Perot enters as an third party, and Clinton wins. He probably would not have been nominated in a different year.
2) It gets their names out there for 2024.
The clowns perceive that Trump is potentially beatable, hence they are coming out of the woodwork. Clowns coming out of the woodwork? Sounds like a Stephen King novel.
There is no pre-anointed front-runner this time, however the media will fill in the blank line so far it isn’t looking good.
Par for the media.
Since Trump is most likely to run unopposed, every Republican should register as a democrat and vote for Sanders.
During the first moments of the first presidential debate, Trump will turn to Sanders and ask him to explain how a self avowed socialist managed to purchase three properties worth millions of dollars, all on a fixed income. How Bernie, how did you do it, tell us your secret. LOL
"Okay, so, I parked the car. What do ya want me to do with all these clowns?"
