In the wake of the college admissions scandal where meritocracy was bypassed by the wealthy and connected, New York City leftists Bill de Blasio and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are demanding an end to the strict meritocracy governing admission to the crown jewels of public education, Bronx High School of Science and Stuyvesant High. Yesterday, the freshman congresswoman tweeted out her outrage at strict meritocracy:

To only have 7 Black students accepted into Stuyvesant (a *public* high school) tells us that this is a system failure.

Currently, admissions are governed by test performance, and Asian students outperform other races, including whites. David Marcus writes at The Federalist:

Her [Ocasio-Cortez’s] math is correct, but what she fails to mention is that while Asian students make up only 15 percent of all students in New York, they are a whopping 74 percent of students at Stuyvesant, the school she references. She claims this is inequity and represents a racial wealth gap. But exactly what systems does she believe that New York City has in place that can explain the extraordinary achievements of Asian students? Are Asians getting better schools? More resources? In what way are Asians the beneficiaries of a racial wealth gap?

For a while the bigoted left didn’t quite know what to do about the Orientals - they are generally quite smart, civilized, and build rather than destroy. On the other hand yellow is not white. What to do, what to do?

Apparently the path of least resistance is to treat them as white, and work to take them down with the white man.

Hard not to notice an inverse correlation between intelligence and virtue in the progressive value system.

Everybody knows that Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese parents make their kids study hard and don’t tolerate failure. Everybody knows that certain “minorities” tell their kids that Whitey is out to get them and not to cooperate with Whitey, and anyway, they will get preferential treatment in college admissions, and job applications.

Only if you start with the premise that all are equal in ability.

But such a premise is demonstrably false.

I'm pretty much against Government "Education" but last night I was having dinner with my daughter and we got around to discussing her eight year-old daughter's familiarity with Shakespeare. It seems that her integrated school offers electives for these crumb-crunchers and my granddaughter selected drama as one of her electives. They would up staging Midsummer Night's Dream. (I found this out while discussing possible operas for next season with my granddaughter. Macbeth is one of those and so the name Shakespeare came up.)

(To be sure, the conversation with my daughter started out by my asking about things she didn't like about her school system. One of the things she mentioned was behavioral issues in the regular classes. And we CAN'T deal with behavioral issues anymore because that would be RACIST.)
