The Supreme Court Monday rebuffed efforts by states to block funding to Planned Parenthood.
It left in place two lower court opinions that said that states violate federal law when they terminate Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood affiliates who offer preventive care for low income women.
It would have taken four justices to agree to hear the issue, and only three conservative justices -- Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch -- voted to hear the case.
Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh appeared to side with the court's liberals in not taking up the case -- showing an effort to avoid high-profile abortion-related issues for now.
Roberts and Kavanaugh "likely have serious objections," said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law. "But such votes seem to be a signal that they would rather avoid contentious, high-profile disputes for now, at least where possible."
The case concerned whether states can block Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood affiliates that provide such women with annual health screens, contraceptive coverage and cancer screening.

Kavanaugh ping
Unless the money is for immigration enforcement. Then the courts will step in.
i’m helping out a couple of spanish kids in Brooklyn. They’ve got no pop so i take them out here and there and try to drill in them what’s expected of a man.
Some things are slowly but surely sinking in.
I guess i figure i can’t hoot and holler about abortion and then want the death penalty for these kids that we wanted born 30 years later.
Our job fighting abortion doesn’t end at the clinics.
We each have to pick up a piece of a kid’s life when we can, one that isn’t as lucky as others to have two good parents.
I fully expected it. I was disgusted with the way Kavanaugh was treated after his nomination, but fully convinced he was a liberal Republican.
And who nominated him to begin with?
Ping
As do idiot Freepers.
Most likely a very smart decision by Kavanaugh.
It’ll get the dems scratching their heads and make the deep state politicians breathe a sigh of relief.
As someone mentioned up thread, he’ll wait until another conservative justice is confirmed and a real good case comes up that the right action by the Supremes can be much more effective to protect future dead babies.
With the court the way it is now, taking on this case would be decided leaning towards a liberal outcome and then become a precedent.
Good to wait until Trump’s next nominee gets in to see something involving PP and all the states go to the full court.
This case would have ended up 5-4 with Roberts being the fifth vote in ruling in favor of PP a
Roberts is always the wild card to push decisions to the left.
[Roberts is always the wild card to push decisions to the left.]
Certainly seems that way.
It’s got to be some other legal issue.
The courts have no authority to meddle in the states decisions about funding.
Great! I’m going to start a “woman’s health center” in my place and file for Medicaid funds.
Sadly, I predicted this. Kavanaugh is an Elite RINO...
The giveaway was when Drudge posted a “tongue out” photo on the front page of Kavanaugh supposedly from his high school yearbook. I can’t remember what the sticking out your tongue pose is all about...
Miley Cyrus and others have made the “tongue’s out” pose famous...
I think its from the Bible.. .something about Satan and a wagging tongue or something.
Yo, legalized murder has the right o be funded.... /s
Kavanaugh is a Bush Deep State CINO, who clerked for CINO Kennedy.
Roberts is a Bush Deep State CINO, who clerked for CINO Kennedy.
Pro abortion Susan Collins said today Kavanaughs vote today vindicated her support for him and shes exactly right. As long as Kavanaugh and closeted Roberts remain on the court theyll be reliable lib votes on abortion and anything to do with homosexual rights.
#27. I raise an interesting question about Planned Parenthood re funding “Democrat political campaigns”.
You would need to see “whose” money is used to fund political campaigns. If it come from the US govt to be used for “health” care, and it used for political affairs, that is illegal.
If PP uses non-governmental donations (the question is whether they are tax-exempt or not or whether PP comes under 501(c)4 limited lobbying provisions of the IRS code), then they probably are doing it legally.
A full-scale congressional investigation into PP’s funding and activities would bring out a lot of questions and answers as well. Let the facts fall where they may.
Kavanaugh was Jesuit-educated. Jesuits are big time liberals.
Roberts has been compromised for years, going back to his secret vacations to Malta without his family. It was obvious he was dirty when he allowed Obolacare to be foisted onto our Constitutional Republic.
>> Roberts and Kavanaugh “likely have serious objections,”
Well, Roberts seems to enjoy punitive taxation...
Not sure what crawled up Kavanaugh’s ass.
Exactly. I never thought Kavanaugh was a good pick, but so many conservatives acted like he was our new Judicial Savior. Any criticism of him before his confirmation was met with stern rebuke.
Sadly, I'm not at all surprised by this. Will conservatives ever learn??? :(
