Mark Levin Okay, ill say it... 9 MINUTES AGO · PUBLIC Lets stop pretending Susan Collins is a hero and her speech was Churchillian. Many of us were pleasantly surprised Collins did the right thing. Her speech painted Bret Kavanaugh as a bit of an activist. Lets hope shes wrong about that. But she came to the same conclusion as all Senate Republicans but Murkowski, i.e., Kavanaugh was the victim of a horrendous smear campaign. A sigh of relief shes voting for his confirmation, yes. A hero, no.
The message was NOT lost on the electorate.
Shark jumping WILL be an Olympic event next time!
Media is ignoring it. Sometimes I suspect that President Trump follows what's going on here. He made "mob rule" a real strong talking point. Do those in political office and other positions of authority who are supporting this mayham think they can just turn it "off" if a tipping point is reached?
I'm wondering if blacks and other minorities who've made a big issue of being falsely accused, are going to think harder about supporting "mob rule" and "guilty until proven innocent" enablers.
“Collins speech was a brilliant team play by the GOP and Mitch McConnell. She was chosen to give the speech and as a team player she did. It cold cocked the left and by dragging out her answer for 45 minutes it made everyone listen.”
Totally agree.
The staging, timing and total orchestration was brilliant! Usually the dems are the ones pulling off successful events like that.
And her speech, given the context i.e. screeching woman roaming the capitol in high pitched hysteria, gave a wonderful alternative sight for the millions of women who tuned in:
That’s what an intelligent, independent woman looks like. And it’s what a Senator of any gender, looks like. A great example to our daughters.
It was very epic. She not only saved the nominee, she saved the reputation of the Senate.
It’s telling that SNL made Collins a target of their ridicule last night. On any given day, I would have to rate Levin as much more intelligent than any personality associated with SNL, but in this case, SNL was far more perceptive about the impact of Collins’ speech.
I saw a short clip on Fox and Friends this morning and noted the great compassion with which the cast mocked Collins’ speech disability.
“Its telling that SNL made Collins a target of their ridicule last night.”
Yes. It IS telling.
If you’re taking flak, you’re oveh the tahget.
Oh come on, doesnt she deserve a Purple Heart?
Rolls eyes...
There were 50 heroes. She was just one of them. Or maybe they were just employees doing the job they were hired to do.
Collins is on Face the Nation right now and giving a very nice dissertation on the rationale for her vote.
She is a moderate and not a hero, but she has earned some respect by me.
What we just witnessed was an event that united the Republican Party at a critical time. Unfortunately, little loud mouthed Marky often has poor self control over his rants and bad instincts at critical times. He should probably have saved this observation until after the midterms.
Please tell me who the ‘true conservative’ in Maine is who could get elected to the Senate.
I could be wrong but I believe Collins is the only Republican senator left in the entire New England area.
You can insist on ideological purity if you want, but I will take a vote to elect a Republican majority leader over getting a democrat elected to put Chuck Schumer in control.
_________
Right. It's a human's (human) issue.
I dont think thats the point. She methodically laid out point by point not only Kavanaughs stellar character and why he belongs on the Supreme Court, but she called out the Democrats for their lies and hypocrisy including breaking of senate rules. She emphasized the importance of due process and this attempt to upend and destroy it along with a good man and that she didnt believe Fords accusations.
I groaned when I heard of her press conference thinking she wanted to bask in limelight and power but she made me proud. She made the case for Kavanaugh. That was better than just a yes vote from her especially in her position as a liberal Republican woman.
Did I agree with everything she said? Nope. I am a woman who doesnt believe Ford was ever assaulted.
WTH speech were you listening to?
Collins stated nothing of the sort.
Rather, she spoke of Kavanaugh’s use of “severability,” which is a perfectly reasonable practice in jurisprudence, and standard boilerplate language in contract law. It is well within the bounds of legitimacy to remove sections of a law that violate the Constitution, while leaving the remaining parts intact.
That speech was not all of her own hand. Ill wager it was written well before the vote, and likely penned by McConnell and Grassly - or members of their staff. There were some parts that very much sounded typical to what Senator Collins would say; but the speech in its entirety hardly came across as being from the mind of Collins herself.
Nailed it. This entire sh*t show has been Kabuki theater from the start.
Commas are your friend!
I watched Collins’ entire speech and it gave me serious DOUBTS about Kavanaugh. I realize she was trying to PLACATE the rabid #MeToo terrorists, but if Kavanaugh CHANGES LAWS in order to SAVE them, I’m NOT ON BOARD with his confirmation.
Your opinion is irrelevant and probably totally unfounded
He sits on the bench
