Mark Levin Okay, ill say it... 9 MINUTES AGO · PUBLIC Lets stop pretending Susan Collins is a hero and her speech was Churchillian. Many of us were pleasantly surprised Collins did the right thing. Her speech painted Bret Kavanaugh as a bit of an activist. Lets hope shes wrong about that. But she came to the same conclusion as all Senate Republicans but Murkowski, i.e., Kavanaugh was the victim of a horrendous smear campaign. A sigh of relief shes voting for his confirmation, yes. A hero, no.
“Fox News wont let it go. Theyre acting like she made history but she just voted like everyone else except Murcowski.”
Collins laid out her case and voted based on that. What she did, every Senator should have done. She stepped up big time and even though she is a social liberal she did what was right. There was no ideology here.
What amazes me is that life-long friends who live in MA and CT do not understand at all how the threat of mob violence terrifies most people who live in the real world. I wonder if Maine voters will rally around Senator Collins because it’s out-of-state agitators who are ginning up the hatred.
She said something I didnt know either: that he apparently values precedent very highly. And even supported the case 19 years ago that challenged Roe (supported the SC decision not to overturn Roe).
So hes probably not as much of a threat to Roe the activists opposing him were saying. So all this drama was for nothing really.
A bit disappointing but ultimately, I think whats the best strategy for ending abortion these days is to do as what Missouri is doing, making it as difficult as possible to license these care clinics (baby killing factories).
So Roe May remain the law of the land forever but it will be so difficult to comply with all the various licensing requirements its practically impossible to run a baby killler in a state.
Missouri has only one clinic in the whole state now.
Spot on comment.
Susan Collins was awesome yesterday and proved that she will draw a line in the sand when her nation is at state. She meticulously and with logic laid out everything that has happened to the Judge from the day he was nominated, not sparing criticism of the Democrats who took a stand against him before some even knew who the nominee would be. She recounted the history of other Supreme Court confirmations and of how much worse this one has been. I only disagreed with her about Christine Ford. I do not believe she was sexually abused like she said. I think the whole thing was made up between her and her other left wing friends to deny Kavanaugh this confirmation. Those who have watched the progressives for many years have seen them rachet up their unfair attacks to try and win at any cost. We also know they have gotten away with a lot of that. This time the Conservatives decided to not allow them to destroy the life and legacy of a man any nation would be proud of. And, so, at their own peril, they stood between Judge Kavanaugh and the mob.
Collins has won the past two elections by well over 60 percent. She is far from being a pariah in MA. In the long run, this speech and vote will help her. It will invite comparisons with Margaret Chase Smith.
I think her task was to send a message to Murkowski and maybe a few others. I don’t think it worked, as Murk still will vote, “no”. It wasn’t a kick-ass speech, but it did cover some facts that otherwise may not have been known. It had more value than not.
I especially liked her pointing out the absurdity of the drugs and gang rape scenario.
‘So here we are today, before the final vote is even taken, fussing between ourselves over a semantic point.’
one must never pass up the opportunity to signal ideological virtue...
Even with Kavanaugh there are not five votes to overturn Roe. The issue was always a red herring pushed by the Dems.
Shut-up Mark.
Murk is voting ‘present’ so Daines can be at his daughter’s wedding.
Mosquitos and cockroaches do not flay. They annoy and spread disease. The people doing the flaying are impotent schreechers who don't have an effective plan.
The election results this November are key in the battle for decency and civility in American politics. If the Democrats lose big time, their recent behavior will be a key part of it. Let's hope that is what happens.
That is a very good point. The US has always been a generally stable country where mob violence is pretty unthinkable, particularly officially sanctioned mob violence (that is, the respectable, official Democratic party is fully supporting these crowds of loonies and their violence) so its hard for most person to imagine what it would like to have scores of hate-filled, vilolent people outside your house screaming for your blood, threatening your family., etc. I hope she gets some support from the decent people of Maine.
Time to set the record straight with another misinformed Freeper. The term anti Trumper is infantile and adolescent. And one who disagrees with policies set forth by our President is now anti this and anti that. Utter garbage. Like a large number of Americans Levin was for another cantidate during the PRIMARIES. In case folks were misinformed the primaries ended quite a long time ago but theres always someone there to remind you they didnt end. Its almost as bad as a fanatical Hillary supporter reliving the general everyday.
Once the primaries ended I like a very large number of Americans pulled to a single candidate into the general. This is NOTHING new. Every election cycle primaries are nasty but in the end the we all pull together and bring our partys cantidate home. This has been the pattern for over 200 years. After the primary Levin like many others too issue with some of our Presidents policies wishing to pull him further to the right on some things. As such, holding him accountable to certain flipping of positions that were vocalized. That doesnt make anyone anti this or anti that. In fact thats called democracy and last I checked everyone who has a stake in the game voices an opinion. Again that doesnt make anyone anti this or anti that.
In the run up to the General Levin implored his audience to vote for Trump. I listened to every broadcast. To say this is not fact is a flat out lie and Ill call ANYONE out publicly stating otherwise as a purveyor of lies. The problem was as is still the case, we have folks that have and are making this about the person vs. positions, policies and principles. That my friend is called cult of personality. We are zombies and wont be run off when we speak out on disagreements with certain policies. Would I be called the infantile term anti Trumper if I told you Kavanaugh was a HORRIBLE conservative selection as a Justice? Or are we so caught up in personality that that alone rules the day?
I'm glad that US Senators are finally waking up and realizing that there's no such thing as giving the maniacs something, and expecting reasonable dialogue. If they had stood up for Roy Moore, it never would've reached this point.....there would've been one more Republican Senator.
First, according to some stuff that has leaked, there were some truly vile threats made again herself and her family, including rape, even before she gave this speech.
Second, despite those threats, she chose to make herself the lightning rod. She put herself front and center and made the keynote argument for Kavanaugh. She basically told the left that if they were looking for someone on whom to focus their rage, she was it.
She could have just cast her vote, in relative silence and obscurity, as did most others. Instead, she very publicly stood up to the bullies and spoke her piece.
It isn't the same as storming Mt. suribachi, but for an old lady, that took a lot of guts.
This wasn’t a Churchillian speech. But there was a lot a cleverness in it that is getting overlooked.
The most obvious example is that at the same time she apparently let Feinstein off the hook, she also set a trap for “whoever released the letter”. When it comes out WHO leaked the letter, these words will take on more meaning in that they came from her.
If I believed Kavanaugh is everything Collins said he is, I’D VOTE NO!
She is a RINO, period! BUT, we will accept her vote and appreciate her trying to sway other Democrats to vote yes.
Yes, I will give her that. But it is a sad day where someone stating the obvious is suddenly viewed as a hero or great statesman.
