WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is citing safety to justify freezing gas mileage requirements.
A draft of a regulation prepared this summer would freeze an Obama-era program that was intended to improve fuel efficiency and cut pollution.
In excerpts obtained by The Associated Press, the administration argues that heavier vehicles are safer than lighter ones and that people would drive more — and be exposed to increased risk — if their cars get better mileage.
Transportation experts dispute the arguments. Automotive engineer Giorgio Rizzoni of Ohio State University calls the administration’s safety claims “a stretch.”
The draft also shows the administration plans to challenge California’s long-standing authority to enact its own, tougher pollution and fuel standards

Yeah i looked him up ad well. He is a published professor who works holds a tenuered chair funded by electric and hybrid car intrest. So his paycheck depends on his position. That would be why the journalists looked him up and included him in the article. For balance. Plus it was easy. Journalists love easy quotes to fluff the article. Just lazy freshman level journalism. We wrapped our kids in an old Ford Explorer XLT during their post-licensing formative years. Not the heaviest of trucks...but the government refused to sell us an Abrams tank. In the case of the oldest child...it was a wise move on our part. The kid could wreck vehicles (yes, plural). Luckily everyone survived her misadventures, including the truck.

My 2003 Dodge 1500 Hemi Ram Quad-Cab pickup never got better than about 10.2 miles per gallon gas mileage according to it’s computer, but it was pretty bad @ss.
