On Wednesday, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the nation's highest court. President Donald Trump promised to speedily replace him, and that he would choose someone on the list of 25 candidates he developed to fill the seat vacated by Justice Antonin Scalia. Trump should pick Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah).
I have been a big fan of Lee for a long time. A former Supreme Court law clerk, this senator has taken firm principled stances and presented a strong originalist view of the Constitution. He made Trump's second list, the current one under consideration.
Lee took himself out of the running in September 2016, as he was running for his U.S. Senate seat that year. On Wednesday, he changed his tune. "If somebody asked me if I would consider that, I would not say no," the senator said.
"Mike Lee spoke to reporters in a rare hallway interview about SCOTUS. Asked if he would ever be interested in being considered, he noted he has been a court watcher his whole life, used to watch arguments for fun as a kid. "I would not say no." He added it is Trump's decision."

If confirmed, he would be the first sitting senator named to the Supreme Court since Hugo Black in 1937.
Sen. Ted Cruz , the other former Supreme Court law clerk in the U.S. Senate, threw his support behind Lee Wednesday. "I think the single best choice that President Trump could make to fill this vacancy is Mike Lee," Cruz told Fox News. "The reason why I think he is best choice that President Trump could make is because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Mike Lee would be faithful to the Constitution and Bill of Rights."

Well, he said he voted for McMullen and he called for Trump to step down so his judgement is seriously flawed. Clearly he is lobbying for the job and pretending to be so happy with the President, don’t buy it. He’d be the new Kennedy, or Souter. bet on it.

I bet Mike Lee’s name is being thrown out there to take the cameras away from the real candidates. It would surprise me greatly if POTUS chose him.
Mike Lee needs to stay in the Senate. We have many good judges to pick from.

direction. The abrupt about face of Glen Beck is one example. The LDS want as many possible Saints from below the border to come here so absent positive proof to the opposite no LDS can be trusted on secure borders.

Nope because you could well lose Collins and/or Murkowski and we have no guarantee that we can get even one democrat. Lee is a big boy, he can be patient. Ginsberg, Beyer and Sotomayor will be coming up, he won’t have long to wait.
Cruz cannot be trusTED when it comes to the Supreme Court. The chances are high that TED still had some Koch Industries and Golden Sachs donor favors to repay.
This could very well be a backdoor globalist play to fight Trump on immigration and dreamers from the Supreme Court angle.
Tell me this: why is TED so eager to get out there with this recommendation? Be very careful.
He is a Kennedy clone: He will rule conservative when the conservatives don’t need his vote, but when conservatism is on the line he will move to the center so that he can be the “swing vote.” No thanks.
I do not want a politician appointed to SCOTUS. Kagan, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Sotomayor are prime examples why.

Mike Lee is too libertarian. His independent streak kind of libertarianism will morph into liberalism within a few years of his SC Appointment.
